Rob Furlong made that shot using a McMillan .50 Here he is using a AI, that is the first clue.
As for a precision rig, I started with a Savage 10FP in .308 and it has been fantastic. No complaints and when you want to step up, rebarrelling is way cheaper than a Remington 700, the trigger is way nicer, and lots for stock option if you dont like the HS precision or McMillan A5 that is available (although I dont know why those wouldnt do). I put an AICS on mine
I would'nt waste time with a .223, before you know it your gonna want to reach out further than a .223 will let you.
As for all the hating about the term "sniper rifle" while I agree about all the public perception drama, don't we think as a CGN community we could be a little more welcoming to new members and maybe explain the impact of the terminology rather than being a bunch of pumped up jerk offs and flaming these guys? This happens all the time. All the armchair power mongers hop on and start hammering on the new or inexperienced posters and it turns into a great big pissing match when all a guy wants is some info from more experienced people who share the hobby he would like to begin to enjoy. Nice job welcoming him to the club.
Not all long range shooters are as*holes, just the first ones to post on CGN!!
