Looking to pick up my first handgun that i wouldn't need to replace if i wanted to get into ipsc or the likes. It's got to be 9mm to keep the costs down on ammo, i really like the HK USP 9mm and the sig p226 but unfortunately money is enough of an issue to not be able to buy ether. Right now id like to stay from the 1911's because i plan to get one a bit later down the road in .45 acp (for those special days). Truthfully I have been looking at the Norinco p226 clone (np-22) but i can only find very limited information with a search on google, and thus dont want to waste my money even if its only $350. Other then that i am fully open to suggestions, especially similar handgun styles to the USP and p226 but in the cheaper price ranges, so that i could still afford them.

What's your budget? And have you considered buying used?

Glock 17s find themselves on the EE from time to time. But not for nder $500 usually.

I saw a 9mm made by AR at Wolverine that was about $500. It was really nice. It was a CZ clone and Wolfgang really recommended it for the price. I went with a Glock, but I would call Wolverine and ask about the AR.

AR-24, made in Turkey. Good gun although definitely not the prettiest in the world. I didn't even know they were in Canada. :D

It wasn't an ugly gun. I'd say that it was about the same quality as a PARA 1911. Felt about the same. Trigger was nice on it, really nice actually. The sights were very plain. There were two models, one with better sights, it was closer to 600.

Try www.armco-guns.com/ , he's got lots of interesting stuff, new or used, stock or race, budget or primo. You also might try calling and talking to Gunnar. Make sure you check his hours on the web site because there are days he just does gunsmithing and doesn't answer the phone.
Gunnar will work with Norincos and if that's how you decide to go I highly recommend an action job. I had Norinco's CZ clone for a while and, out of the box, it was one of the worst trigger pulls I've ever felt.

I am fine with used. Preferably I would want to stay under 500 if possible.
For under $500, your best choice is a used S&W or Ruger revolver. However, if I were you, I would wait a little, save up money, and buy what I really wanted instead of settling for something less for the sake of instant gratification.

Exactly - save a little bit more and buy a new, quality handgun.
You don't want to mess around with your first firearm and the chances are that a used one may develop more problems than a new one.
Don't go cheap, because it will cost you more in the end.
I just bought the NIB Glock 17 for 715 with the taxes and delivery.

Or you could have your cake and eat it too..... Buy a $99.00 M-213 from Canada Ammo (link at the top of the page) and save your pennies for the piece you want......

The best part about the M-213 is parts kits are cheap..... just $99.00, the parts kits come with a Frame, barrel, trigger group, springs, bushing and 2 extra mags.... :D

For a cheaper pistol and of the "plastic" ones will do you good. ie Glock, S&W, SigPro... but your not going to get it for $500 or less, well maybe a Glock :D I would stay away from the "$99" pistol as it will only fill the void for now and once you get a quality one it will serve you no purpose.

I tried the glock but it just did not feel good in my hands.
I have the STI Spartan and it is just great, but in 45 ACP, I second talking to gunnar!
