Suggest me a red dot for a 10/22

I picked up a 12” Dlask 10/22 off the EE. I plan on putting it in a Magpul stock for grouse, rabbit and plinking.

I’d like something with a smaller dot for accuracy on small game and preferably one that mounts as low as possible. With that in mind I’m leaning towards a pistol or shotgun red dot such as the Burris Fast Fire.

Any suggestions? It’s going to have to mount to a picatinny rail.

Anyone running a Burris Fast Fire? I’ve also heard good things about the TRS25 but I do like the clearer glass on the pistol red dots.

Holosun has a 1 or 2 moa center dot, the vortex sparc was 2moa, not sure what the trs25 is but I have that on my similar 10/22 for the moment

Just bought a Ruger 10/22 with the backpacker stock. Put a forward mounted red dot mount on it and put a Sparc 2 that I has sitting around. Seems to work well so far. I think it is a 2 or 3 MOA dot. Had a Venom as well, but put that ona Rem 870 build instead.

It’s a 10/22. Even a 3 moa dot is going to be tighter than the gun can perform. Don’t pay for performance you can’t use.

My 2 cents anyway.

Thinking on it more. A lot of these red dots have the tiniest little viewing windows. I’ve never hunted grouse or rabbits with a red dot. Is this going to work as I had hoped? I’m hoping for head shots at near-ish ranges.

I should add that I’ve done plenty of shooting with Aimpoint Comp4 and Aimpoint Patrol red dots on ARs and can shoot them well. I’m not putting a 500$+ red dot on a 10/22 so I’m wondering if the lower end TRS-25 / HS403 / Romeo5 / etc will serve my purposes. I’ve always enjoyed iron sights but gave up on them after missing too many birds in brush or low light because I couldn’t pick up my front post. I switched to optics but a lot of scopes don’t focus well at close ranges.

Try a green dot unit especially if yer eyes be older. Makes a big difference in fast acquisition for many folks with aging eyes or color blindness issues.
Lot's of decently priced units out there to sift through to find the one that suits best.

Holy sh*t.

You just put 2 & 2 together for me. Just had my boy tested for colour blindness today, and he’s deuteranomoly or however you spell it.

I put a red dot on his pellet gun this summer, and he can’t hit a thing with it. DUH! No fricken wonder! I feel like an ass now for getting impatient with him. Ugh.

I sympathize with ye on that. I've been running a Bushnell Holo Sight on my 870 trap gun (And others) since 2006, but last few years I found the 1 moa dot just
a pain to properly acquire. On my Leapers scopes with red/green select colors, the green is much more effective and with much less fuzzyness than red dots.

My new dot sight for shotgunning will be one of these, and it be already ordered from D&L Airgun. ;)
