I am looking at using my Glock 17 for IPSC. I am wondering what modifications you would recommend.

I have already changed to a 3.5 lb trigger and put on a hogue slip on grip.

I am planning on changing the magazine release and the slide release and possibly installing a plug in the handle. Any recommendations on brands for these modifications and am I missing anything else (sights?).
 
Don't bother with that junk. Just spend your money on magazines an ammunition. I'm pretty sure that most of your proposed modifications will also bump you out of production class in ipsc as well.

Hienie or Warren Competition sights /w Dawson FO front
3.5 lb disconnector and extended mag release...don't install the extended slide release...useless.

Enjoy shooting minor in standard with the trigger kit and hogue grip.
You might get by with the 3.5 pound spring but the disconnector won't pass the 5 pound trigger test. Stupid Production rules don't allow the hogue grip either.
For production the only recommendations I'd have would be grip tape, large frame magazine release and steel sights of your preference (trijicon, heinie etc.).
 
For production you can also install the 3.5lb disconnector, add the 8lb trigger spring, grab a trigger scale and ensure your still over 5lbs.

Griptape, Sights, extended mag release, thats about all you need to do and its all production legal.

A grip sleeve isnt legal for production, so you will want to stay away from that.
 
Most of my glocks get:

- 3.5lb connector with NY1 trigger spring
- extended mag release
- extended slide release
- sights upgrade (though the factory Trijicons are not bad)
- grip tape gets applied to guns that I plan on shooting in competitions

I think I will talk to one of the guys in Calgary that marshall the range for IPSC competitions and see what they say.

I do appreciate all the help, but there seems to be some confusion.

Talk to Mass, he is known here as Dragoon and he shoots a Glock in Production. He will more than likely be glad to help you out.

Is this the same guy (Massamo) that teaches the black badge course?
TSE gave me his number to call to find out when the next course is. If it's the same guy, then I know he'll have the right answers.

the 3.5 will be fine, even with some polishing. the Heinies (sp) or Novaks for new sights will be a big help, get a fibre optic for the front if you really want to be special.
