For pure hunting nothing beats the 30-06 in that group. If you want to shoot at the range lots, something with less recoil is nice like the 7-08. I have a 270, 260, and 30-06 and the 260 is marginal for moose sized animals. Someone will argue this, but what I mean is if you have a less than perfect shot. I had a straight (moose looking at us) on shot standing beside my buddy, me with 260 him with 30-06. He shot and then me twice then him. When he hit the moose had a hugh flinch mine not so much. All bullets recovered. Now the moose would have died with the 260, just you could plainly tell the difference.
