Hey all,

I currently have an 8.5" Grizzly, would rather not sell it as I had it duracoated.

I was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a longer barrel/mag tube or if it would be cheaper to buy another Grizzly altogether.

If so where can I find said parts for relatively cheap, I've been looking on Brownells, they have free shipping right now but regardless it'd be almost the same price as another Grizzly from CanAm.

Thanks.

you cant (realistically) buy a longer mag tube, its an 870 - the mag tube is brazed in. its not like a mossberg 500 where you can just unscrew the mag tube and swap it out with a longer one. the forend assembly is also shortened. youd be looking at more money in parts and gunsmithing than you paid for the gun.

im a bit confused as to why someone would buy an 8.5" grizzly with the intention of converting it into a longer barreled gun? the entire point of the gun is its short barrel.

if you want something longer barreled then buy another gun. if youre thinking about a 12.5" barreled one, the barrel length difference is negligable. if you want a typical ~18" type gun, then buy a Remington.

out of all the parts, sticking out the front of the reciever on an 8.5er, only the mag cap and shell follower are compatible in any practical way with any other 870 accessory. Just buy another Griz, the other ones are all cheaper, despite being more gun. Buying more guns, is always a good idea, who knows, they might run out, then what?

both a 12.5 and an 8.5 Grizzly is pretty redundant.
like i said earlier the difference between the two is negligible. theyre both super short shotguns. if you want a hunting barrel, then just put the money youd spend on a 12.5 grizzly plus a longer hunting barrel towards a better gun that already comes with one. a 12.5 grizzly plus a good barrel is nearly $500 -- for that you are in used 3" Wingmaster and 870P territory. not to mention it is not guaranteed that your Remington barrel will index perfectly on your Grizzly receiver.
