Just starting to work up loads for this new old rifle>
a Dumoulin on a "magnum" mauser FN action (it was reworked to fit the weatherby)
24 inch bbl
lots of freebore
good tight chamber
but with 1 in 12 inch twist
Conventional wisdom says that a 180 gr Nosler Partition is abut the heaviest longest bullet that should stabilze.
My jap 300 weath loves 180 gr Accubonds and similar using imr7828 @ 3200 ft/s and super accurate. But it has the 1-10 inch twist rate.
I was hoping to use 165 or 180 gr Barnes TSX (I like the penetration for the larger species) on this new rifle but I fear the the twist wont help those longer bullets. Nothing wrong with the Partition or similar - just looking for input before I start the process.
