Suggestions for .300WM 'all-rounder'...

Well, lots of great advise and comments on personal experience...all of the above has me thinking that I could narrow it down to
a. bolt action, (duh)
b. wooden stock
c. 22-24" barrel
d. Winchester, Remington, or Savage
c. Thinking Win 70, since I seem to beginning a collection of sorts, i.e. my Dad's 1894 ( 1906 build ), pair of 101 Pigeon Grade Lightweight's 20 & 12...
d. sell the current 300WM, Rem 700 XCR TLR...

I suspect the 70 might be a little lighter than the Ruger 77, but otherwise I'm guessing they are probably pretty comparable. I have owned one Savage, Model 10 Predator, enjoyed the Accutrigger very much, but of course that model is out of the question for brush beating...

The next generation will probably swap the wood out for a plastic stock anyway. ;)
 
Well kinda excited, going tomorrow morning to check out this package...

I fully expect it will be all it is advertised to be and I'll be at the range this weekend to warm up the barrel. He describes it a 'light 300' but at 7lbs 8oz. plus bases, rings, scope, and ammo, I don't think it will be particularly light. And the 24" barrel is just long enough for me, for fairly easy carry in the bush.

After all the input I received here I'm feeling pretty confident this should 'fill the bill', and with any luck, the larder later, haha.

Call me empty, but my hunting rifles are mostly plastic stocked. They don't crack, dent or scratch like wood, and clean with a toothbrush and Windex.

FWIW, I have a converted M1917 "Enfield" with a Pattern 1914 bolt in .300WM in a black plastic stock. It shoots 2" groups at 100 in all conditions. The stock profile is very comfortable on the hands.

That's a good price for that package and I'd straight buy her personally, very nice rifle, and a lovely weight for a .300.
