The large capacity magazine up here in Canada would be pinned to 10 unless is was for a LEO, and they all seem to be shooting, glocks, berettas and sigs.

People say that. The Witness is an italian made gun. I've heard they are made in the same place a lot of the CZ's are made too. Mag limits are no issue here, depending on the state. In PA I can own an AK-47 with a 40 round clip no problem. That same gun in Maryland is a no-no. I'm not sure I can help you with the mag limit bit, as I'm not aware of all the laws. I have a Glock 36 too. Its a .45 and holds 6+1. That might be an option too. Is self defense allowed in Canada? Like if someone broke into your house at night could you shoot them? If so I'd go a lot higher then a 9mm. I'd get a .40 or a .45 to stop a burglar, if thats what you are looking for.

Yes you could, if you believed that your life was in danger. People who say self- defense is not allowed in this country are either sarcastic or simply don't know what they're talking about.

^ sad but true, how long you go to jail for depends on what happened and how much you spend on a lawyer. But its probably goin to end in you loosing your guns.

I was being a bit sarcastic in my last post but I don't think what I said was far from the truth. The last time someone broke into my house, I asked the officer who took the report what would've happened to me if I'd taken a bat to the perp's knees, his answer was that I would've probably been charged with assault. Even though the fella was in my house, illegally... Makes you think twice before wanting to defend yourself or your property.

A close relative used to own a retail shop, an unsavory "gentleman" pulled a knife on him in an attempt to rob him. My relative grabbed a broomstick and gave him a couple knocks on his head before the would be theif decided the effort was not worth it and ran away. Police came around and basically told my relative he could be charged with assault if the theif complained. He at that point told the cops to get the F**ck out of his store, true story.

The cop can arrest you for whatever he wants to, but its not his decision as to whether or not you actually end up in court.

When we were young, my older sister had an ex-boyfriend who used to come over late at night and smash our windows. He threatened to burn the place down one time. I was pretty young, but I still vividly remember my dad's conversation with a group of cops. "Whatever you do, make damn sure he's INSIDE the house and don't hit him if he turns his back to run". Granted, my dad never owned a gun... So I'm not sure how firearms would have changed it.... But that's what they said.

Personally, I'm comfortable enough with my fists that I really don't think I would ever need to use a firearm if someone broke into my house. I'd much rather lay a stiff beatdown and have them remember it in the morning, than to send 'em home in a bag and (at best) lose my guns forever. They don't learn anything that way. But I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself with my firearms, should the need ever arise.

Should have asked a criminal lawyer or a judge instead. The average cop has a very limited understanding of the laws he is supposed to be enforcing.

The law of self-defense is quite simple, actually. You are allowed to use as much force as you reasonably believe is necessary to prevent death or serious bodily harm to yourself or a person under your supervision. Is it possible that some dickhead crown attorney would charge you regardless? It sure is. However, it is highly unlikely that a judge would convict you if it is clear that you had good reasons to fear for your safety. Now if the robber was unarmed and posed no threat and you shot him anyways simply for breaking into your house, that's another matter. But then we are no longer talking about self-defense.
 
EAA Witness (in the USA) = Tanfoglio

This is a CZ clone. Another CZ "clone" is the Baby Eagle (BE). The CZ's (or clones) are worth looking into depending if they fit your hand. I like the BE since it is a little heavier than the M&P and Glock and has more weight up front because of a full length dust cover. Makes the gun very controllable for follow up shots. My girls use the BE.
 
Howdy, no one buys just buys one shootin iron. So, in my expert opinion buy all of them. The g-17 and a M&P 9 are your point and shoot options (the m&p can be fitted to your hand better via the interchangable backstraps.) I got both and i use the m&p more often.

I'll try out the M&P and then I'll decide but so far the Glock is the one. Yes, one shootin iron is never enough. I'm also looking later on though for a 40 and 45. When I'll pick up the 9. I'll pick up a 22 also. Thanks a lot.

Yes, always looking out for other suggestions. I will be looking for a 40 and 45in the near future. In the 40, have no idea but in the 45 I was informed to get the S&W 1911. What's your take on this?

It's amazing reading the laws up there. Its ridiculous you cant defend yourself, or are very limited in options. Here in PA if someone breaks in at night armed or not... they just signed their own death warrant. Simple as that. Most cops see it that way too. Just make sure its in your house, not outside.

It appears this thread is sidetracking somewhat into legalese.
Regardless, pro2A you have to appreciate Canada really does have a very different gun culture and overall liberal slant to it's political/legal system. Good or bad we only deal a 1/10 of US vilolent crime just by virtue of a smaller population. That said PA is not exactly hotbed of viloent activity either. I used to live in NY and imagined at somepoint moving to PA owing to it's relative quite nature.

Now back to 9mm talk, EAA, CZ, I like em all :)

Any info will help me alot in my decision. By the way, what are the going rates and where could I pick one up?

From the ones on your list try Sig 226 then S&W M&P. Those are VERY
accurate and have a good sight picture. It really does not matter what you
choose, what matters is how much you are going to shoot it.

I've seen people with M&Ps out shoot people with customized $2000
PPC revolvers.

It is not the gun, it is the shooter. Most guns are accurate to get 2" from 25
yards. It is your job to get there off hand.

Trust me, pick the cheapest gun you can buy and TRAIN until your
trigger finger feels numb, wait a day and repeat.

After few thousand rounds, you'll be shooting better than 80% of
the guys in your club.

gun: sight picture, comfortable grip and trigger, gun's weight.

you: weight training (2-5lb), learn to squeeze without moving the rest of your fingers, other motor skills required in different shooting positions, shooting on
the move etc.

Believe it or not, but you have to be fit to consistently shoot well for extended periods of time.
 
Well to get back to the subject of 9mm, sorry I got off on my soapbox there... I would go for one of these 4. the Beretta PX4, the Kahr PM9 or the Glock 26 or 19. All are very good 9mm and I believe all 4 meet the 10 round limit. I've shot all 4 and am quite partial to the Glock because I own a few the 26, 36 and 17 :) Glocks are well made guns. I've had mine for a few years, and I only remember the 36 jamming one time. I've put well over 1000 rounds thru it.

All four are illegal in this country (unless you get an extended aftermarket barrel).
