suggestions for a benchrest .22LR?

BTW, Scopes work good, but this is what a peep can do at 50M... 1 Flier...

Benchrest or BR50 is a whole discipline unto itself, and you can spend just as much $$$ as an F Class rig, if not more.

A good Aperture setup, good ammo, good mechanics should get you close to a .377-.47 group without using optics. (providing your eyesight is at least 20/20... I have 20-20/20-15)

Oh, it's possible. :) I'm just getting ready for the 333 challenge myself. I'm doing it with 555 and this is about the range I think the one hole challenge is possible at.

The claims on this site are often hilarious.

hate to do it but i know what that ammo is capable of and even at that range your pushing the envelope!

I have a cantilevered scope base that was milled off on the front and just sits on top of the receiver, it holds zero flawlessly and works good, I used to shoot a lot of USBR with that set up, those rifles are scary accurate for what they are, that hammer forged barrel is hard to beat. The aperture sights with the proper front inserts are just as deadly, but finding inserts to fit can be a real challenge so I had a Lyman 57 front site modified to fit within the front site of the CM2's factory sight.

Further to that, check out Gehmann or Centra for a new rear iris. Nordic Marksman can hook you up. Careful, you can spend as much on a good Aperture setup as you can on a scope (and in some disciplines the Aperture is more consistent)

You can actually get peep sights with optical correction in them. Buncha money, but you can...

But like as not a scope is going to be the way, for all practical purposes.

I still need to try it out from a bench, but just leaning across the hood of my truck it was pretty decent. I have one of the M70's as well, and the M61 makes it feel like a crude toy. Mine has a 1.5 oz set trigger, and the rifle weighs just over 16lbs, so it really doesn't move much when you take a shot. Before I shot it, I had to dry fire it a few times so that I could get used to the trigger and actually touch it lightly enough to not set it off. Tradex had one or two if them listed that were drilled and tapped for scope bases and missing the rear sight for $500 or $550, but I don't know if they're still listed. I had to quit looking or else I would have bought another.

hey Rob, thanks for your response!

do you know anything about swapping barrels?

I've got terrible eyesight, so I would want to drill/tap for a scope and don't like the idea of hurting something rare and somewhat historical, so if I can get a gunsmith to put in a new barrel, I'd be interested in that.

I have not done a barrel change but a shooting buddy sources lengths of scope rail from Brownells. He has a mill to drill & machine the rail to fit the existing tapped scope block holes.
