Suggestions for a First Rimfire?

Tikka t1x hands down. Cz makes a solid rifle too but they are now in the business of taking firearms from canadian citizens.

A CZ 455 or 457 as a first gun would be my recommendation.

Let's keep in mind that CZ subsidiary Colt Canada is making profits off our tax dollars by helping to destroy confiscated firearms in Canada. How about we DO NOT support a company like that?

I never see a 10/22 do well in our rimfire rifle comps, that you can win with a Cooey.

Too many will just shoot too fast.

Exactly. I went from a single shot target rifle to a 10/22 and could feel it sucking the marksmanship out of me. Never went back to a semi. If you want to learn marksmanship and to shoot well, a bolt gun is the answer.

I also personally dislike the 10/22

The 10/22 is the SKS of the rimfire world. Its is best suited to turning gunpowder into noise.

CZ 457 is probably the best value right now.

If you think supporting a company helping to disarm you is "value" then have at'er hoss.

ANYONE who values their rights to own and use firearms should be avoiding CZ like the plague right now.

I mean people still support China. Often see wont buy a Norico because F supporting commies.

Yet you cannot go more than 5ft in someone house, without something from China. Be it a component etc.

Look, if people want to support communist countries, that's their problem. Supporting the CDN govt taking our guns is most definitely OUR problem.

I agree wholeheartedly. My exception would be if the OP bought a used CZ the money wouldn't be going to CZ...

I'm ok with that I guess.

It's not like many people are going to toss their CZ's in the garbage if they already have them. (Although some might! )

T1x is a great all-around rifle and will be simple and accurate to start with. Later you may want a 10/22 just for funsies, or a Henry lever .22 for the wild-west aesthetic, or even an Anschutz if you get into accuracy too seriously.

10/22 were fun when bricks of ammo was 15$ and you had 25rd mags. The quality of the newer ones are not great, and why I cannot recommend them.

If you do buy a 10/22. Find a pre mid 90s or older. One with metal trigger guard and band.

CZ is assisting the fed in the confiscation of Canadian firearms owners property.

I have three 457’s but i am boycotting CZ entirely at the moment and it is something i urge all Canadians to consider doing as well.

Savage mk2 is also made in Canada, and CURRENTLY made in Canada, so you're actually supporting Canadian jobs by buying a new one. Nothing wrong with Cooey of course, but if supporting the Canadian economy/Canadian jobs in the firearm industry is the goal of buying a gun made in Canada then Savage is the better option.

Im not trying to advocate supporting the Canadian economy. Not that I am discouraging it either.

Simply stating that the Cooey 39 was made in Canada and was made back when quality was a virtue in manufacturing.

Nowadays it is more of a coincidence.

I have a couple MKII’s and have owned a few more. Fine rifles. But the 1930’s era Cooey 39 i bought for my 6yr old son has a certain something and is hella accurate to boot.

He crushes paper grouse and woodchucks with it.

Rimfires are fun, cheap to shoot and come in many varieties.

A 10/22 is one you'll keep.

The Savage Revel Classic or Revel DLX are really nice accurate lever actions made in Canada in the Lakefield Ontario plant. It’s a takedown, comes with irons and is scopable, and the lever is butter smooth. I chose it over the Henry H001 for the takedown feature. Levers are good starter rifles. Tons of fun.

I would check out the Winchester xpert. I have no personal experience with it but seems to check all your boxes. Tikka is great but it’s going to be a pain to get some open sites on one.

455/457 Lux, vastly superior to the T1x. Get a used one for a better price and keeping money in the hands of Canadians.

A Used 457, especially the VMTR, would be the best choice EXCEPT the LUX has the "Bavarian Hog-back" stock which makes scoping a difficulty. . . about 1" lower than standard stock. An MTR has a more accurate chamber, but only comes in a couple stock styles. Shopping the EE is the best Bang for your buck and there's lots of choices. On the 'Low-$ end' the Sav MkII is the way to go . . . $2-300 and very accurate for the price.
