Suggestions for a First Rimfire?

The problem with cci standard velocity is it is slightly over sized and cz has too tight a match chamber. SK rifle match is nice and accurate in the cz.

Reports are Tikka likes cci sv. There can be flyers but it is an accurate budget friendly and widely available ammo.
When I barreled my 455 I had that problem with SK, RWS, Eley and CCI sv. It was a case of tolerance stack up between the receiver and the tenon on the new barrel. I was actually compressing the case rims by .0010 - .0015 on closing the bolt. I put enough of a barrel shim so that I still have a bit of resistance on close when chambering that when I am dry cycling the rifle. All brands chamber fine and show the start of rifling imprinting on the bullet. About perfect now, I would say.

The question is really just which do you buy FIRST? I wouldn't stress too much over which one as you'll likely have several before too long. Semis are just fine, just as long as it's accurate, and as long as you can resist the urge to rapid fire.

Shame about CZ's involvement in our current political situation, as they'd usually be my first recommendation for a bolt action.

For a semi, my Derya TM-22 is one of my favorite rifles. You can buy flip up sights for them, but they're really intended to be used with an optic. I have a red dot and a magnifier on mine and absolutely love it. Takes AR grips, AR com-spec stocks, MLOK accessories, 10/15/25rd mags are cheap and plentiful, lots of aftermarket support, superb warranty coverage by O'Dell. Way better than an off the shelf 10/22. It's a rifle that will give you pride of ownership.

They go on sale all the time for 10%-15% off at SFRC and FOC.

I would check out the Winchester expert. I have no personal experience with it but seems to check all your boxes. Tikka is great but it’s going to be a pain to get some open sites on one.
I have a Wildcat, which is basically the semi auto version - same sort of stock, same magazine, etc.

I like the gun a lot. My only issue is the front sight is much too large - like covers the whole target at 50yds large. If learning iron sights is the goal then id look into that. I'm not sure if the Xpert uses the same sights, but it looks like the same front sight in the pictures on the website.

Might help to be a little bit more specific in what you’re after. New I would look at the Winchester Xpert. From what I gather the reviews are good on them. If you’re after precision maybe a used Bruno or Anshutz etc. It would be a hard pass on CZ. I don’t think Tikka or Bergara have models with open sites. I’m sure there’s others that would work as well.

the guy asked about a bolt gun and the first comment is a 10/22 ?
as far as the comments about levers and semi's and what have you
simply disregard them
people can't even stay on topic
cz , tikka T1 ruger american
stay away from savage or lake field
as far as vintage win 69a
pay the money and have a life time rifle likely 2 life times

Thank you.
I wish those 10-22 *&$#! would stay home.

As far as the 69A’s go, three here and are all grousers.
Fabulous shooters.
Marlin made an equvilant.

The single 67 & 68’s can be found four a couple brown ones and do well.

Ruger Americans are accurate but on the piggy side.

The numbered CZ’s are perfotmers as well……..depending on yer views.

Cheers

RUGER AMERICAN RIMFIRE - stock has 2 different combs included for proper height when using scope or irons and the trigger is adjustable - and excellent build quality - steel receiver.

RUGER 10/22 CARBINE - comb height is ok for irons but too low for scoping - factory trigger is too heavy at about 5lbs but you can buy a ruger aftermarket BX trigger which will be about $150 extra.

Basically a stock 10/22 is just a plinker - not that great for serious shooting - and build quality is not that great - alloy receiver.

Another vote for the T1x. Never got the CZ hype. My stock T1x outshoots any stock CZ I've tried. Once you start going custom, that's a different game. I will say i prefer the 16" model. Balances better, stiffer barrel, little lighter.

Some flavour of Savage MK 2 Bolt action.

CZ457 is fantastic, but due to recent events, I would avoid CZ.

T1X would be another nicer option to the savage.

Looking to start journey into shooting. Considering a start with a 22LR bolt action, ideally with iron sights to start.

Any feedback or suggestions on the way to go?

Cheers,
Op....did you decide yet? You didn't mention a budget.
Tenda has a Jw15A Compact with 400rnds for $259.99. Another option is the JW25 "Mini Mauser" $399.99
Both bolts with irons and take CZ452 mags......

Their trader ratings sure don’t make them trust worthy.
Yikes.

Which Chinese company is making profits off our govt confiscating guns?

Which Chinese arms manufacturer is helping to steal and destroy CDN guns?
.

I was going to make a joke about Chinese officials bribing Canadian officials... But apparently the RCMP told us that there is nothing to see and please move along...

Nothing wrong with the 10/22, one of the more popular rifle at Appleseed/Mapleseed match.

Personnaly, I kind of like bolt guns... And nice walnut
