Hi All, still waiting for my PAL to arrive (it's either in the mail.. or will be soon? :D)

I already have an SKS purchased and waiting for me but I'd kind of like to get a shot gun as well. I was thinking of getting a Supernova but not really having a whole ton of funds not sure if that's the best idea in the world. I'm pretty unbiased as fire as firearms go(never having actually shot one yet sadly.) Any suggestions? Hopefully under the $500 range (probably less the better)
I Kind of liked the supernova's for their look and the way they strip down from what i've seen in videos but also never had a chance to hold one in person!
Before you all ask, won't be doing any hunting (at least not in any foreseeable future) just clays and what not.

Thanks!

And queue fail.. Also preferring a pump action even though I know it's probably nicer having a semi auto for what I want, I just like the sound.. Can you blame me? :D

also.. Non-restricted. I'll think of everything yet for this.

The best deal on a shotgun is the Mossberg Maverick 88.

It's a pump shotgun. They work great, and are very durable.

You can get one for very little money. You can get it with either the long barrel, the short barrel, or both.

For trap, you'll want the long barreled (28" vent rib) version.

Trap is one shot a time, so a pump is fine.

I have heard mixed reviews about the 88.

You should look into the steven's 350. It can be had for around 300 or less and is a pretty solid gun. It's a knock off (and a good one) of an ithica shotgun. I haven't used mine for trap yet but it's been fun around the backroads :)

Remington 870 - simply for the amount of aftermarket support available. You can pick up a GOOD USED wingmaster for under $400.

Alternatively, if you want to shoot in style, you should get a side by side. Call the guys at TradeEx (site sponsor) and tell them what you want to do. I bet you'll be into a nice shotgun for well under $300 that will handle all the target loads you can throw at it.

I paid $350 all said and done for this fine engraved Belgian shotgun from TradeEx. Shoots like a dream.

Just remember, while single trap is fun, you are eventually going to progress towards double trap, skeet, 5 stand, and sporting clays.

I think someone in person suggest the 350 to me a while ago but hadn't heard a whole lot about it.. Might look some more into it for that :D
Also that looks nice, especially for $350 I might have to get in contact with tradex too. Maybe I won't be able to find a 350 locally anymore :D

JustBen does have a valid point.

A pump-shotgun is absolutely fine for shooting trap.

But if you ever get into shooting skeet, you're going to want/need a double-barreled shotgun.

All the above mentioned are alright for entry level guns but the best $ value is the weatherby P-08 chrome lined bore ,chrome chamber very smooth pump and the wood version comes with nicely figured wood and can been had for under$500..

Im with "JustBen" on this one.

I own a Remington 870 Wingmaster and I love it. I use it for skeet and small game hunting. No issues whatsoever. And you can get a used one for 400$ or so. If your really on a budget and want to buy new, Remington 870 express is decent too and under 400$ all in.

The answer depends on whether you're talking about casual shooting at clay birds, shooting the odd round of trap at a trap club or taking up trap shooting as a serious pursuit, including competition. If you seriously want to be competitive, you will have to buy a trap gun; a shotgun specifically designed for trap shooting. Remember a trap shooter will shoot more in a weekend than a hunter will in years. Check out the pictures of the Olympic trap shooters. They aren't shooting Mosbergs!

Another option to consider is a nice but used Remington 1100...which can usually hover around the $500 mark in Canada.

I have a Remington 870 Express and a Mossberg 500. I like the look and feel of the Remington better, however the Mossberg 500 is not a bad gun at all. My Mossberg feels lighter and would probably work very well for trap shooting because it would present fast. Did I mention Mossberg's are cheap too! $$$

The Winchester SXP pump is always overlooked. sure, there aren't alot of accessories but its a great gun at a great price.
I shoot mine for trap, it works great for me, low recoil, minimal muzzle climb and the action is wicked smooth.
I paid $430 for the camp and filed combo which has an 18" cylinder barrel an a 28" field barrel that comes with 3 Invector-Plus chokes.

For trap shooting only, you should look at getting a over/under or side by side, no need for a pump or semi. You are only allowed to put one or two rounds in anyway. There are less mechanical issues with these guns and you will be shooting lots of rounds with these guns.

We all agree with you but the budget here is 500 or less...
