Suggestions for a noob on a cheap shotgun for trap?

For trap shooting only, you should look at getting a over/under or side by side, no need for a pump or semi. You are only allowed to put one or two rounds in anyway. There are less mechanical issues with these guns and you will be shooting lots of rounds with these guns.

Nobody who is serious about trapshooting uses a side by side. In 40 years of trapshooting, I've seen two side by sides on the line. And that was just for the novelty factor.

JustBen does have a valid point.

A pump-shotgun is absolutely fine for shooting trap.

But if you ever get into shooting skeet, you're going to want/need a double-barreled shotgun.
I shoot skeet quite often with a pump as do several of my friends , and have no toruble at all with it.

A pump is actually easier to use and shoot for most people than a SXS.
I shoot SXS guns almost exclusively, but also shoot O/U's, and can tell you in no uncertain terms that people get onto a single barrel sighting plane much easier than two barrels.

A fella at the club i shoot at shoots a pump all the time and does really well with it. If he's never shot a gun before than a Mossberg or Remington will let you see the light, than spend like an addict when you find your thing. Just keep scouring the gun shops and ee and here its called buy, sell, trade if you have a resource like that. its a used stuff that has guns in the sporting section. The key is find a gun that you like and feel good about and as you shoot more and more and like someone at your clubs gun, ask to shoot it and see if you'd want to buy one like that as you're willing to spend more money. I think secretly some of the guys at the club i shoot at are chomping at the bit to let someone shoot there guns. Especially if there a new shooter. Everybody wants to see someone else improve. my 2 cents. And I've spent a lot on trying to find the right gun and didn't need to at all. I just needed A gun to shoot and to ask around the club

Something else you may want to look at if you like the nova. Stoeger p-350. Its a pump shotgun that looks like novas and Stoeger is made by Benelli. Just a thought
