Suggestions for a novice pistol shooter

For $1000 you can definetely buy a better gun than Glock 17. HK USP, Browning Hi-Power and Sig P226 are a few that come to mind.

capp325, are you sure the HK USP, Browning Hi-Power and Sig P226 pistols are better firearms than a Glock 17 (G17)? I am a 1911 nut and I am not sure a 1911 is a better firearm than a G17. My suggestion is to go to different shops, hold and caress a bunch of handguns, try to rent and fire them, then decide which is best. Regards, Richard

Hmm...Interesting statement, I used to avoid Glock but now I love my G17 even the trigger is terrible but for some reason it does shoot very good and even better than my CZ. I think 1911 is an art and Glock is a perfect work horse and they all have their own right.
