suggestions for an IDPA/CDPA style vest or jacket?

Wifes Housecoat or Bush Coat Should Work Eh

Actually a dressing gown should work! lol..esp with the issue shoulder rigs seen in Kabul only worn on the inside. IWB will work with virtually any jacket; yaqui slide is great because it really doesnt look like a holster.

Main thang in my opionion is to follow "Bianchi's Law" and always carry your CCW piece in the same location.

Really is this "IDPA Thang" any more "complicated" than accessing your wallet without the "fumble factor"?

Being able to do your draw presentation promptly with a variety of garments ranging from a suit to jacket to Hawaiian shirt could give you some confidence.

Will you really know "exactly when" to dress for the occasion? Is there the proviso that you wont know exactly when the "CCW whistle" is gonna blow until Conditon Yellow and Red suddenly appears at the "damdest times" like eating dinner at a local Lubys in TX?

Would your little alarm bell go off if a certain person ALWAYS wore the same type of outfit like a camera vest day after day? Mine would eh!

The corollary to this is that the garment jacket or 5.11 special or wifes house coat has to be loose enough so as not to show the "telltale bulge" especially when the piece carrier is about to sit down or bends to retreive keys or answer the door late at night.

Consider that "specialty garments" may compromise your otherwise low CCW profile.

IF crossdraw was acceptable my pick would be a business suit or bush jacket and Ed McGivern;s 1937 version of the shoulder brace holster hung off his left brace. No coat sweep involved eh!

Also like the right hip back pocket wallet holster Mr McGivern favoured in 1937. Easy to carry a J Frame Bodyguard or Centennial there.

Worked in 1937 and would do okeh for stroll around Kabul in 2007. Try some point shooting with your J frame sometime. Thats why Crimson trace is making a nice sight for them now!

OH oh..Almost forgot about Fitzgerald at Colt in the 1930's who favoured those 2" New Service bobbed hammer 45's in a leather lined right or left side pants pocket.

"Less Is More Eh!".

Hi Maurice,

I have seen everything from 511 vest to winter coats (in the middle of summer). I have tried a lot of stuff, however check out the website as guy like Peter who weld open pocket, starch up flaps, and put weights in to get a better swing are circumnavigating the rules. Ideally, because IDPA is basically supposed to be catering to the concealed carrier in the States, you should try to find a jacket or vest that you would wear in an everyday situation. I am going to sign off now and wait for Peter to explode. LOL:)

Steve

Get it right Steve, the weld didn't hold.:D

Blew your theory.:runaway: :runaway:

LOL @ Repete and Steve. I have used everything including the Magnum PI shirt that Pops talked about. I tend to like to find someting different for every shoot. It draws attention away from my poor shooting ability ;-)

****correction; in Canada, this shirt is referred to as the, "ipsc1" shirt. ****:p

Just got back from Mark's Work Warehouse. Bought their Utility Vest $49.95 less 10% CSSA discount. Vest is made from a canvas material (10 oz. 100% Cotton Duck) and works perfectly for an IDPA vest. Very stiff material. Lots of pockets to store things in when at the range just shooting. Worth a look.

Take Care

That's what I use.

Just wash it a couple of times, the stiffness gets less but not too much.

Yea you are a "high roller":D . They wanted another $40 for the zippered sleeve ones. I passed as I didn't see myself having a need but they do come in that version. They are perfect for IDPA.

IPDA wear in Mississauga and Jane and Finch is a slightly oversize baggy nylon jacket (winter) or hoodie (summer) with deep slash front pockets. You walk with one hand cradling the weight of the piece so that it won't seem too obvious you're carrying, and to minimize the printing. You have to remember to keep your bus pass in the OPPOSITE pocket. ;)
