I'm looking for a scope for my Norc M14. I had an NCstar mounted on but wow that didn't go well. What is my best bet on a modest budget?

I'm not sure you can depend on a budget scope on an M14. I'm having problems with my scoped m14 and I'm starting to think its the scope, a Burris FFII 3-9x40. The other decent scopes in that price range would be a lower end Leupold like a VXII or rifleman, or a Bushnell 3200. After that, its a lot more money.

I have a bushnell elite 8-24 on mine. I love the closeups at 200 yards. At one hundred the target is all I see. I personally don't like the NCstar products. I have the ARMS -18 sight mount system. Tight as you could ask for and it will never move.

The scope was just over $200 and the mount came in a trade with a boyd's stock.

I've used all kinds ... Leupold VXII 3x9x40, Eotech, B&L, etc ... depends on your budget and what you're using the rifle for ... ;) ... I settled on a Leupold Mark 4 ... :D

A falcon menace offers very nice performance for the price. The 4-14x44 was a popular choice for the M14s, but they sold out fast. Allen gun works (a site sponsor) carries them. Frontier firearms has them as well.

I am currently using a 4.5-18x56 IR Falcon on an ARMS #18 and I am loving it.

well i got on order a millet 4-16x50 from a local gun store and a the M14 deluxe scope mount from fronteir firearms, which i believe is a duplicate of the ARMS 18 mount. as of right now i can 10" round circles at 200 yrds with the ironsight and 150 gr federal.

Hard to suggest something if you don't specify what type of shooting you intend to do.
I would avoid Bushnell, the only thing good about them in my opinion is their warranty. I had an Elite 6500 2.5-16 and the glass was terrible. I sold it for a loss and am glad it's gone.

What's a modest budget to you? $250? $500? $1000?
For mid level stuff I like Burris and Nikon, for better stuff I like Sightron and for more money I love my two Nightforce scopes.
On an M14 I would go with a 3-9×40 or a fixed 10 power. I prefer mine with the irons though and have hit gongs at 500 yards with the irons (not every time of course).
