Suggestions for my second pistol

Alright guys and gals. I'm looking for another pistol. I love my FNP-9 but I only have one hand gun :(.

I was thinking something in either .40 or .45.

I was really considering the S&W M&P .40. It's got a really affordable price for me and with a range kit which basically has everything I want coming with the gun in a package (ie a carry kit).

I want a reliable and effective gun. Something I would use for a carry if the laws permitted. So basically a gun I would grab if the walking dead became a reality :0

As much as I respect glocks I am not interested in those atm. Budget will be just under 800 as well (open to ideas for going over).

I'm kind of bad at describing things so I hope I was clear enough.

So many choices, here's some suggestions

1. Used Sig P226
2. Used Beretta 92FS
3. Baby Eagle/Jericho 941

For a survival pistol go for a revolver, like a Ruger GP100. Less parts to break and maintain.

Thats why Rick Grimes carries a Colt Python. One badas# gun

If we're doing that I'd rather Captain Picard's phaser to be honest, can you get me one of those? Make sure its tactical and cool looking though. I don't like what the federations done with the current models :/...
 
If you don't want a Glock, I would say get a Glock. Only a Glock is as good as a Glock. Without a Glock you can't "Glock Out" or "Rock Out with yer Glock Out!". In the end a Glock cabinet without a Glock is just simply Glockless. You need to have one in your inventory so that you can appreciate a Glock. Getting a large frame .45 or even better, a 10mm Glock will mean you can appreciate a large black Glock. This is essential to understanding why all other pistols are just not as good as a Glock. Besides, when someone else sticks out their Glock, only another Glock will be comparable. It's just simple Math. No Glock means you loose, especially if the other guy holding that Glock is Chuck Norris. Then yer pooched, cause yer Glockless. You'll end up sucking on a Glock if that's the case. You can't win that one. Besides, shooting a Glock is simply beyond compare as you pull the trigger and it goes "Glock, Glock, Glock".

Better get a Glock.

If not, a SiG. That's as close to Austrian as you can get without having Glock and therefore not completely Glockless. At least there's beer.

+1 for the P226. I've had one for years and it's my go to 9mm. Reliable and accurate - always goes bang. 30,000 rounds or so without a hiccup. Comfortable for me as well - like an old, worn pair of jeans. That being said, make sure to get something that "fits" you well.
 
Sig 226 is getting my affection these days.

I don't like DA/SA guns but the 500 round I have put thru the 226 it has warmed my heart.
Expensive mags (the ones I have found anyway) and I am having trouble finding them and they are expensive.
 
Why change calibers? Get another 9mm makes your stay cheap and eases up the having to change tool heads or dies if you reload. Also makes buying bulk ammo easier.
So based on that I'd go CZ Shadow for an all metal gun, Glock (even though you think you don't one it) for plastic, and then M&P if really mean it about the Glock.
You need to look at parts availability when choosing guns, you've already got one gun that parts are difficult to source, why buy another?

If you want a reliable and robust wheelgun I hate to say it, but a Colt should be at or near the bottom of the list. That buttery-smooth, clockwork-like Colt action is, well..........built like clockwork. Subjected to the same use & abuse a Smith will outlast the comparable Colt.
 
For 9mm - Sigs, Glocks, CZs, M&Ps, you name it, you'll be hard pressed to find a pistol that is not good.

But for .40, I strongly recommend the Steyr. You will not find a .40 handgun with less snap or flip. I think there's still a few dealers who have them in stock. I'm selling my M40A1 only because I don't have the money to shoot 2 handgun calibers, and 9mm won out. (And I promptly picked up an M9A1 to replace it.)
 
I own quite a few 40s, and usually prefer them to my 9s and 45s. I shoot the 155gr lead SWC and recoil is very light. I am hard pressed to say which is my favourite, but the CZ and M&P get shot the most. The CZ got a trigger job and the M&P got the Apex comp trigger.

Not familiar with the Jerico that gets the good review, but I think it is a CZ clone, no?

The CZ favours a larger hand, if that matters.
 
I would say Glock 17 (even though you say you don't want one)...

M&P, or..

1911. In .45 of course.

It's a hobby for us... explore and enjoy it, and buy what you're unsure of/sell what you don't like on the EE.

If you're looking at a different chambering just for the sake of having something different, then it ought to be a .45. The SR1911 is nice.

Also - Ruger Mark-II

You cannot discount the fun factor in cutting loose with a .22. Buy one of those little steel swinging .22 targets and go nuts
