Greetings!
First, pardon my inaccuracies since I'm fairly new to the firearms world, any information will be appreciated

I'm starting to look for a non-restricted firearm in the style of the Colt M4 or an AR-15, chambered in 5.56 nato but from what I understand nearly all of these are considered Restricted.

I saw there was an exception in the case of the Kodak defence WK-180; Are there other similar options?

Cheers!

Just do a search and you’ll find there are plenty of non restricted AR wannabes. The WK is one of them, but there are much better ones out there. Price is a big factor as they range from 1k to around 4K.

ATRS is one of the best choices, but they are at the top of the price bracket.

First understand that all AR-15 variants AR prescribed a restricted regardless of features or barrel length.

What you are looking for is a receiver set that takes AR parts but was designed specifically with our laws in mind so that the receiver have wouldn't fit with any actual AR-15 equivalent.

You have two options the quality atrs modern Sporter, or the quality lacking but readily available MDI SLR. As both are limited production for the canadian market and milled out of billet aluminum they run in excess of $1000 just for the reciever set. At this time these are the only two examples of non-restricted pseudo AR's.

There are other non-restricted black rifles but they don't emulate the same feature set or mechanical operation as these two examples that mimic AR's in this caliber set. For Ar10 sized you have the stag 10, and various 102 series rifles from bcl, troy, and sterling.

Thank you that was informative! So in essence all AR-15s are considered Restricted and the only ones that are not are because they're not really AR-15s and don't have the same compatibility with other AR-15 parts?

The two examples I gave you AR compatible with most AR-15 parts and operate the same as an AR-15 but the receivers are shaped differently so you can't use an AR-15 upper on either of these two examples lowers. Basically it can't be a variant of an existing platform if the receivers aren't compatible so it got a new frt number and classed as a completely new rifle.

Ah I gotcha, thank you for the information :)

How can we (as a forum) prevent every single new member from creating this exact thread? It's actually getting pretty annoying, like we're being trolled or something.

I'm trying to cut you some slack since you are new, but I am having trouble figuring out what you want. You mention a "firearm in the style of the Colt M4 or an AR-15", then go on to mention the WK-180C. The only thing those guns have in common is semi-automatic operation, 5.56mm caliber, and a rear pistol grip. They are otherwise completely different designs.

So is that all you want, a semi-auto rifle in 5.56mm with a pistol grip? If that is the case you have many, many options. If there is something else I am missing please fill me in.

There’s one non restricted c7a2 on WW right now. A modern sporter build i think

Thanks for not being on the side of rude, some of these comments are a bit too confrontational for my tastes...

In reality and to put it in words I can say I myself understand: I want a tacticool rifle chambered in 5.56 but I don't want to get a Restricted permit (I want to shoot for fun in my backyard, don't want the Registered hassle). So yeah a tacticool pistol grip 5.56 black rifle, ideally very modular for a lot of flexibility with third party add-on parts :)

Thank you to everyone for their input. I didn't think my post would cause this much friction.

EDIT: I am open to any sources of informative videos about firearms in general, where I could learn a lot more, being quite new to them. I am probably going to be hesitant posting questions here in the future

Don't let a few ### ##### deter you from seeking knowledge or direction on the forum. Some people were just born that way and can't help themselves. Brush it off and carry on. It's just the internet.

There are still lots of knowledgeable people here that are willing to help point a newbie in the right direction.

Cheers

Thank you, I appreciate that :)
