Hey guys,

I just recently bought a Ruger SR-22 which comes with the rail on top from the factory, and wondering what optic to buy. I have a budget around $150, so nothing too expensive. I bought the rifle with small game hunting in mind, but wanted something cool too. I'm looking more at a red dot sight but am wondering how good a red dot is at say, 100 yards?

I know Burris and Bushnell make some cheaper sights, but I'm not really knowledgeable which brands have a bad rep and which brands are more respectable.

Thanks for any help you can give!

The SR22 will hit the target at 100 yards but I prefer to shoot mine in the 25-50 yard range. Mine is sporting a Vortex Sparc but a Bushnell Red/green Dot is more than adequate and meets your price range. I also like the TRS25 which is a bit smaller and I used it on my Ruger Mark III for a while. For 100 yards, you may want a scope with some magnification. For 100 yards and more, I tend to use my precision rifles with big scopes.

I'm a second vote for a Sparc if you want a RDS... A little more money, but a lot more quality. I also second the suggestion for a conventional scope if you're more interested in 100 yards consistently...

I put a Hawke 3-9 x40 on the SR-22 .This is a cheap scope ,under a hundred bucks from North pro Sports.Works very well on the .22 .I dont usally buy scopes like this but I was looking for a cheap scope to put on the JR to fire test loads. Its not a red dot but if your looking for a cheap scope to use for hunting small critters have a look at one.
