Suggestions on .22 target pistol?

For bang for buck, I love the Rugers. I started HG with a Mk1 heavy barrel. Now own a Mk1 Luger type barrel and a 22/45 mk1 heavy barrel.

They can have wonderful triggers and are so accurate with bulk 22LR ammo. Reliable and just don't wear out.

If starting out, trigger time is so critical to learning how to shoot. Many target pistols do not like Wally specials so shooting costs go right up with match ammo. The Rugers usually shoot 1" or so at 20yds using CCI Blaser or Wally bulk Federals. That is better then I can hold.

PM if interested in a great used MK1 for dirt cheap.

I go with mysticplayer on this one. Have owned and shot a 41, a Walther GSP, and a Hammerli. All good guns,BUT my favourite is the Ruger Mk11 Competition. Have smoothed up all the internals and added a Volquartson trigger and a Ultra Dot sight. Extremely accurate and 100% reliable and didn't cost an arm and leg. Lots of aftermarket gizmos available also. The Mk 111 is just more of the same. In fact the whole Ruger line,in my view,is under rated. Good guns for not a lot of money and made in NA. If you want to go the revolver route I recommend the S&W 617/17 ten shooters. Very well made, accurate and a blast to shoot.Have fun shopping.:)

The Ruger Mark III's aren't as affordable as the Mark II's were, but still a lot of bang for the buck...

The 5.5" bull barrel is a popular choice for target shooting.

I own 6 "Target' 22 cal pistols 4 of which are s/autos with heavy barrels. The S&W model 41 is by far the BEST of the bunch. As opposed to the chap who thinks they all jam up, mine never misses a beat except with low velocity ammo. Standard and high velocity ammo - no problem. Take down for cleaning is the easiest of all. The Browning Buck Mark Plus is nearly as good in accuracy but is more ammunition finicky. The Ruger Mark II eats everything and has better sights than most 22's. The front undercut patridge gives good sight picture in most light conditions. I had to smooth up the trigger on the Ruger a little, but that is not uncommon with them.
Buy as good as you can get and only have to buy once. Then you won't end up with 6. (but that is not so bad I guess)

Thanks everyone for all of your input and helpful suggestions.

As a result of these suggestions and the CGN equipment exchange, I purchased the following TWO .22 pistols.:D

Hammerli Xesse
Ruger Mark II

and still keeping my eyes open for any deals that come up.

I figure the worst case scenario is if one of them doesn't become a good friend, you guys here will help find it another good home:)
