Good god man - 16 years?Stumbled across this while looking for something else, so here we go, surprised I missed it sixteen years ago
The tumbling would happen in any event to remove case lube, so there is no impact to time.
This isn't about precision ammo, it's about high volume loading, and on-press is the way to go.
Anyhow, my view hasn't changed.
The only reasons the method you propose is faster is because it cuts corners.
Loading .223 / 5.56 (or any bottle neck cartridge for that matter) without de-burring the inside mouth of the case in the name of saving time on case prep is folly imho.
With the increases in the cost of ammunition and reloading components in the last 16 years, it is even more so today than back at the original date of this thread.
Tumbling the case alone does not adequately chamfer the insides of the mouth.
You will most definitely shave bullet jackets without physically chamfering the inside of the case mouth.
Maybe not always, but it will happen. Same thing with marring the jacket - you may not remove bits of jacket, but gouging and marring will also happen.
This doesn't make my argument about precision ammo, only quality ammo.
If it's sh!t ammo you want to shoot, save the time, cost and energy making ammo and go purchase cheap ammo in bulk.
