Hi all,

Just wondering if any dealers can chime in on the below possibly being available in Canada when these finally hit the market. I see deltamike out of New Zealand is already taking preorders for these with the expected release of late 2025. They'll be pump or semi like the original, and the marketing description is as follows:

"The Sulun SPAS 12 is a faithful homage to one of the most iconic shotguns in history, the legendary Franchi SPAS-12. Designed and manufactured by Sulun Arms, this shotgun delivers the unmistakable aesthetic and presence of the original, while updating it for today’s shooters.

This 12-gauge shotgun captures the aggressive styling of the SPAS-12, complete with a vented heat shield, folding stock, and imposing profile. Whether you’re after a collectable tribute piece or a range-ready head-turner, the Sulun SPAS-12 delivers in spades."

Suffice to say, I think this would sell like hotcakes regardless of operability. I know I would pay a bundle for even an inoperable wall hanger let alone a pump only or similar variation.

Cheers

SPAS is still on the prohibited list as it has been for 30 years, no? So a deactivated wall hanger would be the only option I imagine.
It is, but this doesn't share any parts with a SPAS and operates completely differently with a different action and everything. Its typical Turkish reproduction as far as I know. So a completely new firearm that would meet our import guidelines and restrictions

In other words, it is a newly made SPAS-12 clone, regardless of whether or not it shares any parts interchangeability.

The RCMP would consider it a variant of the existing named prohibited SPAS-12.

Yes, it is aesthetically similar but it isn't a variant. It shares no parts and operates completely differently, not a clone. The SKS looks similar to an AK pattern rifle but is still legal still to own and purchase.

You have a lot to learn about Canada's legal framework with regards to firearms. The RCMP will arbitrarily classify it as prohibited strictly on a named variant & cosmetic basis and they have done so many times in the past.

The RCMP has the ability to make up it's own gun laws and interpretations and the Canadian kangaroo courts find every way to legitimize it.

Your logic doesn't matter and countless lawyers have tried to argue otherwise. The Canadian government doesn't have a legal definition as to what a "variant" is, and they kept it ambiguous on purpose so they can ban everything.

Im well aware of the arbitrary classifications, it sucks and it wouldn't surprise me if this was blocked. But there has been several examples of AR style "variants" that gained non-restricted classifications for a time period before new legislation came in to being, among other prohibited firearm types. I was just wondering if any dealers had any information regarding attempts to bring this Canada side in the hopes that it passed also. As others have mentioned there sometimes feels like there isn't any rhyme or reason to the classification. It could be worth a try

Oh yeah, that will be deemed a variant lol. prohibited.

That’s a big gamble for any dealer to take.
With the Sterling R9 being deemed a variant and prohibited, this gun would be like betting on green in roulette for any importer.

Do you think there is any validity to this argument? If you have learned anything from the past 5 years then you would know.

There is no logic, there is no sense, it’s complete ridiculousness. There have been guns, within a week, designed specifically to meet the new legislation, be arbitrarily banned by the RCMP, without publication.

It’s wishful thinking at best. Do I wish? Absolutely. Would I risk any more money on safe queens……nope, after you my friend…………

if anything, they should have said nothing and called it the Sulun Arms 21-SAPS.

Hehehe
