Toronto rush hour ?!

My plan is to leave at some point in the mid to late afternoon from my place.

3:30-5pm ish.

Storm, you guys gotta leave by 1pm latest from out there, otherwise it'll take you extra time sitting in rush hour traffice thru g.t.a....

or leave after 5pm, to miss it......

I'm heading out 7am thursday .. enjoy full day of sight seeing and relaxing...

Storm,

Stavros is right. You better leave around 10:00-11:00 to avoid both Toronto and Montreal traffic. Montreal looks like 'Normandy' with all this constraction.

Question to Montreal friends:

what hwy through Montreal?
take 20 all the way or 40 or 20 to 540 then 40 to 25 and go back on 20?

Leaving at 5 pm puts me in the GTA around 7 pm

and Montreal at midnight........

If that does not miss the traffic nothing will.

I too am curious about construction in Montreal.

Toronto should be OK around 7pm, Montreal is a jungle to drive through at evening hours. They close lines for paving and I have seen whole hway down for the nite.
I hope friends from Montreal let us know what is the best way to avoid traffic

Wonderful. Weren't we promised flying cars back in the 70's? We were supposed to have them by the year 2000.

Well I guess it might be a long drive then.

I've made the trip a dozen times and leaving @ 03:00 worked best for me. I'm 45 minutes from 400x401. leaving at that time there is no traffic to speak of until you're getting close to Montreal. Driving @110 and stopping for fuel I would hit Montreal between 10:00 and 10:30. Traffic is heavy but moving well and getting across the city is relatively easy at that time.

I would say, get on the 40, then the 25 & then the 20 east. Avoid the Champlain bridge on late evenings since they close most of it for pavement on weekend nights and you might lose easily 1½ hour there.

Lafontaine tunnel is a better option at night for that reason. Depending on the hour you'll be here, the Mercier bridge and then the 30 to reach the 20 might be a good option too out of traffic hours.

Exactly what I was gonna recommend. A little bit longer on the map but you're pretty much 100% sure not to hit traffic.

All this being said...mmmmmm...burgers!w:h::dancingbanana:

so what route your suggest if we'll be going thru montreal at apprx. 12 - 1pm noon on thursday ?

at 1pm you can take the Champlain bridge without any problem, so from the 401, 20 east, Champlain Bridge (keep right at the end) then take the 132E to get to the 20E to Quebec and you're good to go. If you miss the exit for the 132E, you can continue 2 more exits and take the 30E and it will cross the 20E too

Cow path.............you mean moose track!
I cannot believe your GPS took my poor Magnum on that route!

you know you are in trouble when the road actually becomes a gravel pit at the midway point and the roadway is better there!!

Wow, absolutely jaw-dropping stages! These guys look like they've been building for a year on this stuff. I can't believe they put this much human horsepower into this. Should be a "boat load" of fun (pun intended for those who are shooting this match).
