Summerland Long Range Fun Shoot 2008 - April 12, 13th

the bigger the better for us who using only iron sights.... even then, I'm going to need day-glo orange to see them :)

Blind Flanges are awsome gongs!! Im hopeing to get my Rhino up there this year to expidite target setup and do some touring in the mountain after the shoot.

Cool A Rhino. Love em. UTVS are getting attention. I was thinking of bringing up my quad and marking some of the rocks with Orange marking paint so we can see the targets, and will wash away after the first rains.

Not to be a jerk but setting up gongs at the longer distances is not a good idea. The time to go to them is WAY longer then the actual distance.

The lane out to 1200yds can only be accessed on foot or billygoat. Likely an hours walk each way give or take.

The mile area is several KM's away by the road. Really a long way around. We are shooting from one valley to the next. I would prefer not to loose that much time setting up or resetting targets.

We can set up gongs at the shorter 800yds lane like last year. Also clay pigeons make great targets. Here the ATV's will come in very handy. Most shooters used this lane anyways so having more fun targets here will pay dividends in useage and fun.

Swinging targets. Falling plates/gophers. Balloons. Even eggs.

However, for the long distances, we will just use natural targets as before. There are many many targets from pebbles to boulders. None need resetting and they are right in the dirt so you can see the dust kick up. Will 'size' some with my scope so there is a size reference.

For the 800yds, I like MOA sized. Anything else is a bit too easy even if it gets a bit windy.

I think that would be great! For myself I probably wont be able to zero much before 800 or so. What about moa at 1K and double moa for beyond? Im sure Ive got a box or two of birds to bring for under 1K.

Try to have as much space between the target and legs as possible. Some with 338's have been known to drift into support structure :)

The target stand is best designed for very uneven and sloppy terrain. The ground is also very very rocky so pounding into it is not easy. Swinging gongs are much better as getting hit by some of the boomers will likely topple static targets.

I like the idea of marking spray paint that will wash off with rain. That way you can put target spots on the many flat boulders at various ranges.

Anyways, let's see what type of targets you guys are making.

I need two more shooters to help me with RO duties. Nothing to scary. Just keeping an eye on the firing line when the other two RO's are shooting. Watching for traffic, general gun handling, cross firing and SASQUATCH.

$50 on Troutseekers first shot comming outta the barrel in hitting the ground right infront of the barrel.

:D

Who'll take that bet?

That's cold. You know what TS does for a living right? Be sure not to speed through Kelowna on the way in, there could be some latex in your future...;)

Are you near a Westjet Airport? They are having a seat sale.

Ottawa to Kelowna $284 on Friday
Kelowna to Ottawa $189 on Monday. Plus the usual BS of course

Thunder Bay to Kelowna $244 on Friday
Kelowna back $169 on Monday

Cheaper then driving from Ft Mac.

Jerry

PS the last job I heard TS doing, he was riding a bike for a living :)
