Summerland Long Range Fun Shoot 2008 - April 12, 13th

gong legs??

AM thinking, 2 uprights, with a solid bar across middle say 6 feet long that can slide 3 gongs on, legs would be say 2 feet long each, with a place to put up rights in the middle.....OR like one of those metal swingsets?? two angled and a crossbar, with 1 leg each side sliding...????

Isnt there a thread about this??? I've got a 8 inch and a 6 and a 4, welded up already, and a I think I will put a plate over top to cover the holes, or else put some studs in the holes......

Other question, Where is the majority of everybody staying? pentictin or summerland???

Jerry---->How many in total are coming? Might bring a BBQ, cook burgers at lunch one day for the group...

well i see that the sarcasim is coming out. and in my opinion claiming to hit 1 and 2 moa targets at a mile with a 223 and 75gr bullets is a real SLAP in the face for any longe range shooter. for the last 2 years i have been shooting an average of once a week from distances of 500 to 1200m i record every little detail about the weather about the bullets im shooting EVERYTHING. i own the same savage 223 that TS is claiming to shoot 1 mile with. and could not get mine to shoot accuratly at half that distance. I GUESS THAT MEANS I SHOULD TAKE UP SEWING. there are just way too many factors to take in to shoot that kinda distance with that calibre. if you were claiming to do this with a 338 or 50bmg or even a 300win mag i could beleve it. a 223 at 1 mile has got to have less energy than a 22 short. and even a 5kmh wind has got to be devistating to the bullet. ihave only been shooting 4 years and by NO means do i claim to be the best or most knowledgeable about long range shooting. there is still so much i dont know and need to learn but i have been around the game long enough to know when somone is pissing in my ear and telling me its raining.

I have never claimed to shooting .223 accurately to one mile. Both Mysticplayer and I will be trying to reach a mile with it with a degree of accuracy and repeatability, that's the goal. I think he will have a better chance that I as he will be shooting slightly heavier bullets in his 1 in 7 twist barrel.

What I did manage to do with repeatability at last year's FUN shoot was shoot the .223 to 1km and then to 1400 or so yards with decent accuracy and repeatability. And no, not everyone there was on mushrooms...

And yes there was stone stock Savage in .308 alongside that hit the kilometer as well with annoying regularity. Does this make us benchrest champions? Hell no... But we hit what we aimed for and had a great time!

And Mutt-roc, no need to take up sewing, just keep on shooting them "Sniper" Shoots and post comments such as these: "i talk s**t about long range shooting but when itcomes down to it i know i can shoot .5 moa out to 1000m and am willing to prove it anytime.my name is MUTT and if anyone calls bulls**t on that pm me and we will go to the range and see whats what. and all you ppl who sit on your computers and lie about how good you are the only person you are fooling is ur self."

By the way, no sarcasm intended.

brad, there are 30 shooters signed up to come. That number is sure to change. Not sure how many guests we will have.

TS, well put. I am hoping to get my new Pac Nor shortly to test with the 80's. Once the snow thaws and we can get up there, I will start pushing lead beyond 1000m. I am hoping the 7 twist will keep the bullet from tumbling at the slower speeds. If this happens, getting to the mile will simply involve aiming very very high.

Troutseeker: Are you claiming you can shoot .5 MOA "all day long" at 1,000 Meters?
No, that was a different thread that lead to Mutt-roc stating

"i talk s**t about long range shooting but when itcomes down to it i know i can shoot .5 moa out to 1000m and am willing to prove it anytime.my name is MUTT and if anyone calls bulls**t on that pm me and we will go to the range and see whats what. and all you ppl who sit on your computers and lie about how good you are the only person you are fooling is ur self"

Spose we all should ignore the nat sayers. Focus this thread (like it was intended.....) on the details of the shoot.

And I'll stop posting wise cracks about the guys. I was there last year so I am only making smart hiney comments based on the nay sayers posts.

Sorry guys.

Hey, if you throw dog #### on someone's lawn don't be surprised if you one day you end up stepping in it. You brought me into this little "lovefest" thread by saying...

People need to publically verify Troutseekers shooting with his 223. There is a member on the forum that doubts his ranges that he was shooting at.

Are you surprised that I actually took notice or that I bothered to respond? Your PM's to me several days ago regarding this should have ended right there. If you want to drag this into the public forum be prepared for me to respond.

I sincerely hope ALL of you guys have tons of fun while at this event. I would be pleased to attend if I didn't live on the opposited end of the kunt-tree.

All the best.

Maybe I sent more than 1 PM..................;)

Where I said "member", it developed into "members"

Actually, you were referring to me and you know it. You made it obvious to everyone when you'd made reference to my signature line in my profile.

FWIW, all you're doing at that distance is sighting in. I don't even think YOU would believe a .223 at 1,400 yds. would be practical under field conditions.

sawr it meself.

There is another member here that questions the shooting range of the 223 that Troutseeker has claimed.

It is in his sig line................

Well Lets just sit and wait for the day. I'm sure everyone will be paying special attention to the 223s that day. With 30+ witnesses, we will see. We are a little off track here. Lets play nice. Remember the "fun" shoot part. Its easy to start a fire in these forums.

i just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the discussion about the 223. i would also like to apoligize to mystic for getting way off topic on his thread about the summerland long range shoot. it is way too easy to get carried away talking about somthing that has nothing to do with the thread. i wish all the best to all the shooters going to summerland.

OK guys, let's get back to the point of the post. I hope that all can respect that this post is for info on the LR shoot ONLY.

I will start a thread in precision forum on the 223 and shooting out to 1 mile. We can debate there to no end.

My Pac Nor has just showed up and is installed. If I can get some time at the range, load testing will begin. Then will start throwing lead way out there once the snow melts.

All right, anyone able to bring pop up awnings or wall tents to protect against the weather. Hate to not be able to shoot if it rains.

:agree:

I wonder why we even discuss long range shooting on this board.....everytime it is brought up all we get is the BULL*HIT!! call... Think Im going to save all further comments and discusion about longrange shooting for the events. This board should have a long range discusion limit of 500yrds. What the hell is the point of trying to share what we enjoy so much. It always seems to lead to the gutter.

Anyway look forward to seeing you all in Summerland and enjoying another great shoot. If anyone asks I never shot past 500yrds and didnt hit a thing.:D

I'm looking forward to finally shooting past 375 (my range's limit). If I hit anything, that's just a bonus! Mostly looking forward to meeting other shooters, usually I shoot alone.

I can't wait for this thing, one to stretch my shooting, and too to meet all these crazy people. And I want to see a .223 shoot 1400 yards...hehe. See you all there boys and girls.

Steve, I can assure you that if you can hit at 375yds and have the scope elevation, you will be hitting at 800yds before your barrel gets hot.

Just make up a ballistic drop chart using JBM freeware or any similar program.

Bring lots of ammo because you will want to go further.

In year one, IVO was able to connect at 1 mile in 6 shots from a 800yd zero. He had a great drop chart, a well tuned load, and an accurate TRG. He shot very well too.

If the winds are reasonable, and you have a rifle that is working well, distance is easily accounted for by your scope and some good spotting calls.

What is additive and challenging is being able to do it on the first shot. Not so easy...

PHM, wish I could run around with you guys in my camo gortex. Heard it rained something fierce last year.

For this shoot, we are going to pack the comforts of home and be comfy.

LRC, you and FS make good points. This 'debate' gets off topic in a hurry. We will be pushing the limits of bullets and accuracy but that's the whole point.

We all know what happens in the first 500yds. It's the last 500yds that get very interesting.

Not sure about the prime rib although with enough attending the dinner, I might be able to get their interest. I assume everyone is coming?
