Summerland Long Range Fun Shoot - CANCELED, Sorry guys

It was brought to me that some of us might be camping at "ground zero" during the weekend. I am thinking of that my self but just wanted to know if there might be any other players??? I don't want to be out there by myself :(

I camped out there last year, and will be doing it this year. Just be totally self-sufficient- no fires, bring your own water, food, etc. It was quite nice last year...

Jerry

Just got the word handed down from the powers above, the commissioning date for the job im on starts on the 16 of april....

With great sadness I cannot attend this year....

Damn work/career getting in the way of my fun....

So cancel my troop...........

Will send you some $$$ for the shipping and stuff you sent me though...

Thanks

Brad

Is there any reactive target styles I can make in the meantime? Obviously nothing too to heavy! I have some plate kicking around the shop and other materials. I did see some styles in the photos that would be easy to make but they were also falling apart in some of the photos. PM me.

Jerry.....scratch the other two guys from my list and put me in the "maybe" category. Hard to say 100% if I can make it 2 months ahead of time.....especially when some of us live so far away.

Im figuring on camping out there also. Got a 10x12 wall tent. I'll be looking to leave my car with Jerry if thats ok and bumming a ride out with my gear with some good hearted individual.

Well, more like being early and giving Jerry a hand with any set up. I'm about 4.5 hours closer than you, so that'd be easier for me.

steveBC, thanks for the offer of help. We will see how things evolve in the spring.

I am hoping to get in and flag long before the shoot. Setting up the gongs will happen Sat. morning as some have volunteered to help me make some reactive targets.

I will definitely need help Sat afternoon to set up for Sunday. I expect the large gongs and frames will be pretty heavy.

For the extreme range gongs, I will need a 20 to 24" square or rd plate. Doesn't have to be heavy steel as not much is going to damage a plate at 2400yds. 1/8" to 1/4" should be plenty.

Then we will need a couple each at 6", 8", 10", 12", and 15". The smaller ones should be heavy steel as they will be closer and hammered hard.

Of course, some 'gophers' should be made. 3X8 rectangles will be good enough but if someone had a plasma cutter so we can make a shaped profile, that would be fun.

Thinking 6 of these and I would like to get a couple put where the orig GOPHER lives.

For simplicity, I am thinking of making frames from lumber. Easy to recycle and nail together on site. Put a post between the uprights to hold up the gongs.

Some frames should be steel so they can be left on site without issue.

Open to any and all suggestions from you engineers. Chains? Metal arms to hang the gongs off? Hooks?

Definitely styles that don't fall down easily when hit and they will be hit often.

I will be in touch with those who are willing to help me make gongs/targets and split up the work load. Of course, willing to offer some bucks to cover material costs.

Let's hear your thoughts and ideas on making some interesting targets.

Anyone feel ambitious enough to make a duelling tree?

Jerry

I'm working on a small tripod frame made from scrap stuff. I don't have welding stuff so it will be bolted together, and I still have to come up with the gong and some chains. Basically something that won't cost me more than 20 bucks and some time. I should have something done by the end of the month.
In keeping with leaving a minimal footprint, can we move rocks to weight the base of a lightweight metal frame? Since you're talking about thinner gongs for distant stuff, I can get a steel frame that stands about 6' high, is about 2' wide and has a circular base that would need to have rocks on it to weight it down for impact or wind.
I'll take some pics tomorrow (it's at work), send you a PM tomorrow night.

I should have a gong as well. Were tearing down a pulp mill right now and there is LOTS of scrap lying around to make one. The one I have started right now is about 17-18 inches in diameter.

Id love to help with the making of stuff but my little car is doing good to haul my fat ass and some gear and camping supplies. If I started loading plate steel Id need a rider on the hood to keep the front wheels down.

if needed i can make up some of whats needed and bring it up with me, and or i can bring my welding truck with me to do a little finish up work or patch work to anything that might break
