Can someone please explain to me why there's no Sunday hunting in Saskatchewan? I know it always coming up at the SWF conventions, but what's really stopping it from happening? I mean please, I can fish on a Sunday why can't I hunt as well?

Beacuse it disturbs the concentration of all those people at church where you are supposed to be. We couldn't hunt on SUN. in S. ON for years, but now some municipalites are opening up. In N. ON hunting is an organized religion, so it is OK. Also, I heard a rumor that the Seventh Day Adventists and the Jewish people had a charter of rights challenge going forth that a ban on Sunday hunting was religious discrimination.

NOTE: ATTEMPT AT HUMOUR PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME

I don't know why they won't allow sunday hunting, but it sure sucks for me. I work mon-fri so I get 1 day a week in a 20 day season. I can sense more then a few sick days in oct and nov.

Back in the old days when I was outfitting it was great to have the sunday to change the hunters over and get caught up and regroup for the next hunt. BUT NOW that I am no longer in the business I wish we could. alot of people are as avid as thier jobs let them be and an extra day would only help our sport. Last archery whitetail I sat in my tree stand at one point or another for 19 of 21 days and the two days that I could sit all day, we are not allowed to hunt :(

Pile of crap

The ban on Sunday hunting is pure dog dodo. The spineless governments don't have the nards to tell the whiny old women and old farts that hunting on Sunday will not be the end of the world. After all our native brothers are allowed and the sky has not fallen.

It is a shame you can buy booze on a sunday. I don't know what any of us could do maybe start a petition and get as many people to sign it. I don't know what the big deal is. You know if your religious and go to church than go but for the people who are not religious or just don't want to go to church then why do we have the choice if we want to hunt on sunday. AMEN

Sounds like you guys have it even worse than southern Ontario. We aren't allowed to hunt with a firearm, bows are OK though.

Yoteboy,
My information may be a little dated, but the last time that this came up at a Wildlife Federation meeting (That I know of) SWF voted it down by the slightest of margins. 52-48 or something like that. The Rural branches are over-whelmingly in favor of no Sunday hunting and the city branches want it. See the pattern there? A lot of country guys (Not all) really like keeping the city competition down to one day a week.
Serm came on record as saying that there was no biological reason to not have Sunday hunting "But the hunters don't want it" It would probably change their overtime budget so there won't be a lot of pushing from that end.
Between the 2 of us, we probably know enough SWF members that have never been to a meeting to get the results that you want. It would just be a matter of getting the question back up for vote and getting a couple hundred range only members to attend at least one meeting. Guys would go if they knew what was on the ballot.

If you really gotta hunt on Sundays shoot some coyotes or gophers :D

Scottr,
That doesn't help the people with a two or three week rifle season to fill his tags. They can't even shoot coyotes on Sunday when there is a season open.
I'm pretty sure that Yoteboy would rather shoot coyotes than deer anyway, but he can't do that on Sunday from September to Dec the way the laws stand now. That elinimates 2 months of good skinning.

I would rather call and shoot coyotes any day than deer.:D But it makes no sense to me that I can snare/trap coyotes on Sundays during the big game seasons here in Sask., but if I hunted them:ar15: - I'M A CRIMINAL. Please explain that one?
If I could hunt coyotes on Sundays during big game season I would probably avg. an extra 14-35 coyotes a season. If I avg'd $35 per coyote , that would mean an extra $490 - $1325 in my pocket. I hope we get rid of no Sunday hunting soon.

How does voting on this work? Do you just show up at the local SWF clubhouse on a certain day and vote? I never really pay attention to this stuff because i never have the time off work to attend anything? If I knew you had to vote at a certain time and a certain place for this I'd find the time or someone to cover for me because Sunday is the only consistant day I get off and if i could hunt that day , life would be good.
