Suomen Armeija - Finns and the SVT 40/AVS 36/SVT 38

Thanks Suomi- tremendous compilation. I believe I even saw a carbine in my quick first pass through them. A lot of those SVT's look pretty weather beaten. My own Finn SVT 40 appears to have escaped all repairs after the war and had quite a bit of fine, white sand packed under the butt-plate. It's pretty rough but it would be the one SVT I'll hang onto.

Awesome photos. Clearly the Finns liked the SVT. I personally think they are excellent. Very well thought out rifle design. Now if I could just get a bayonet for a reasonable price.

I wonder which army had more captured SVT 40's; the Finns or the Germans?

I am not sure, but it would be an interesting study, since both Germans and Finns loved the SVT 40. A lot of Finland's armaments were of Russian origin, because Finland was under Russia until 1917, there was limited support from other countries (leading to a shortage of arms and ammo), it was practical to use the same caliber and parts, etc. Whatever the Finns captured was put into use quickly. What I have seen in the archives is that there are less SVT 40s in photographs in the later part of the Continuation War to 1944 and a lot more Suomi KPs.
