Super Duty Trail Cam Security Box

Hey guys I just finished building this security box for my new trail cam, let me know what you guys think...

It is made using 3/8" plate steel and can be secured to the tree with up to 3 lag bolts

Should be damn near bullet proof and able to deter theft haha

Just needs a paint job...

I think its awesome, but what if a d*ckhead decides that since he can't have it then nobody can, and either kicks in the lens or puts a round into it? Kinda sucks that we have to go this far to protect our own crap.

And how are you going to brace the tree to keep it from falling over, cause that sure looks like it has some weight to it

Haha It definitely has some weight to it, I haven't weighed it yet but I sure wouldn't wanna carry it too far...

security boxes are nice but everytime Ive had damage to trailcams from bears it was from a lens being pushed in which is always vulnerable on any box since they need to be unobstructed to work properly.

I could weld round bar over and under the cam to fix that problem

I'd say drill some holes in the bottem, don't really want your cameras sitting in water.
actually, maybe even consider drilling a bunch of holes, reduce the weight.

a 3 foot pry bar will rip that baby right out.. if they wanted it..

I drilled holes soon after I posted these pics just in the bottom though

I was actually thinking it would take less effort to blow the lock off it, using a hatchet or a hammer and punch.

Not gonna slow down the determined much, and a guy that thinks his picture may already be on the cam, may end up taking it out of the box in pieces anyway.

Good effort, though.

To protect the lock (more) a slot in the side of a piece of pipe, so it fits over the hasp halves. A close enough fit around it, that sticking less than a full bore pry bar in there won't fit, and loose enough that beating on it just makes it wiggle around.

Then the gits block up your keyhole. No winning, is there?

Use teh heavy box with a dead cam in it for bait, and have at least one or two other cams watching it.. Or ... it gets out of hand.

1. Cut the tree off with a nice quiet bowsaw just above and below the metal box. 2. Take assy home for personal use.

Yep, I would say you did that. Most guys don't bring tools out in to the bush and it will prevent the casual prick from ripping it off with his bare hands. Looks great!

It's really nice to see that there are people out there who still make their own stuff instead of just buying everything.
