Ok so I must have too much time on my hands right now because even though I have a brand new just delivered to the door 1 hour ago and now sitting on my lap as I type this a Sako 85 Grey Wolf in 22-250 I am thinking about something else...

I have a T/C Contender carbine in a 30 cal wildcat that gives me 300 Savage velocities (150gr = 2620fps) I am thinking about how I can make it more versatile and load it with super light bullets for when I see coyotes/wolves while I am out hunting.

I have tried 110gr Speer, Sierra & Hornady bullets accuracy is ok but I am not getting the velocities I would like.

I have heard of a company in the States that is making super light varmint bullets ie: 80gr 30 cal bullets that are made from a material that results in a longer than 110gr V-Max bullet the company is called JRP Custom Bullets.

I have done a search on the web but can't find them I see references too them but I can't find the company.

Has anyone used these bullets or heard about this company or are there other companies that make super light bullets?

Thanks for any thoughts...

Speer TNT 30 cal is also very light, I forget the exact weight.

You can also buy (hard to find) sabots for 30 cal that you load with .224 dia bullets. Very mixed reviews on accuracy however. I just saw some on ebay last week actually.

Sabots are an idea I'll have to look into I have a few thousand .224 and 6mm bullets that I could use... :D

Now were does one find these things in Canada?

Here is a link to using sabots.

What kind of velocities are you getting with the various 110 grainers out of your gun?

In my 21 inch 30/30 T/C I am getting 2800 fps with a max load of Imr 3031 and 110 Hornadys..and 2750 with max load of Re 7.
With a 150 grain Hornady useing H335 at one grain under max. (at 35,600cups) I get 2560fps avg. but haven't tried 110's yet with H335.

If you want to try sabots I ordered 400 a few years back from a gun shop in New Brunswick at (506) 468-2919 ..they take Visa and were about 8$/100. Ask for a printout on the reloading data and they'll forward same...took about 7 days to get to the westcoast...good folks. You may want to order some Hornady .45 cal BP sabots for your 45/70 too....fun shooting .357 cast/copper out of them.

.....cheers

edit.......these sabots use .224 only

Accuracy with Remington's Accelerator was horrid. Besides that the bullet failed badly on a dog I was required to euthanize, so I'm not a fan of high velocity sabots.
