Might have a line on a super mag receiver .... obviously, they can take 3.5” shells with a barrel that can take 3.5” shells, but what’s actually different with the receiver parts wise or mechancically? Can I just put a short barrel on it and keep the shells 3” and shorter?

Thanks for the reassurance DirtyGrandPa.

I’ve heard the bolt on the supermag might be in more pieces than the regular 870 bolt? And that the magazine has the express dimples on it?

One interesting advantage of a super mag receiver is the hole is much larger to toss a shell into the chamber if empty. i suppose the disadvantage to that is a slightly longer pump stroke. I can't really tell the difference between the pump stroke length on different shotguns while shooting.

Both my boys are running 14” barrels with 3” chambers, but then again almost all of their 12 gauge shells are 2 3/4” and hardly anything in 3”. Mind you their 28” VR barrels have 3.5” chambers just in case.

My 870 Police has 3” chambers, and I’m too much of a wuss to buy let alone shoot 3.5” shells!
