I currently own a 18.5" Mossberg 590 with Magpul furniture. I prefer it over the 20" 590A1 I used to own, as it's a fair bit lighter and points more naturally IMO.

I've been thinking about a 14" Supernova Tactical for a few months now and would love to hear opinions on it as compared to the 590. Does anyone have experience with both platforms? Is the Supernova worth the premium?

The shotgun would primarily see range use with buckshot and slugs.

Was considering this one myself.

The debate I'm having is, you can buy 2 x hatsan optimas, or 2 grizzly's for the price of that Beneli. (Frontier has the ATA etro 8. Looks kinda cool, too)



The Supernova sure looks nice and solid, and it "seems" like a pretty good shotgun.

I was thinking of asking the same question. I guess that's not the input you were looking for though, eh.


Was thinking of using Wolverine and their financing option. I'm just waiting for another purchase to come through (C'mon, etransfers!!) before I look into it. That way, it breaks down into little payments you won't even notice (set it and forget it).

Unless there's a minimum purchase required for the service. In which case, the Beneli R1 in 300 mag, gets thrown in there too.

I'm pretty type A when it comes to firearms and prefer to keep my collection small and avoid duplicating items. I don't foresee myself owning more than one shotgun at any time, so I'm willing to spend the money if the Benelli is a step up.

The 590 is a great shotgun, but the action is a bit rougher than I'd like. From everything I've read, the perceived "feel" or "quality" of the Benelli is higher than the Mossberg.

This thread sold me too. WIll have a mossberg coming in the mail, now there's going to be a beneli too. I'll try to convince my wife, that she only saw one shotgun come into the house.

"Naw baby, this is the same one..." :D
 
The one downside to the Benelli is the lack of aftermarket support.

If you like it as is; That's a non-issue.

But if you like to constantly customize and reshape your guns, then the Mossberg is much better in that regard.
 
The SNT is nice but I'd rather have a Fabarm STF-12, for a bit more money.

Having had an opportunity to run about 25 rounds through the Benelli, I'm having a tough time choosing which to keep. I've also spent a considerable amount of time handling the Benelli and getting familiarized with the ergos.

It may be a matter of muscle memory, but the 590 points more naturally for me and shoulders much better. The Benelli definitely has higher quality construction with a smoother slide, better shell gate and a rotating bolt. That said, I was hoping the 14.5 inch Benelli would feel shorter, but it has a longer receiver and is only an inch or two shorter than my 590. Long story short, the Benelli feels like the better made shotgun, but not as familiar to me.

I definitely appreciate the quality touches, but I'm finding myself inclined to stick with the Mossberg.

Talk some sense into me CGN....

I personally think you just need time getting used to a new gun platform. I just purchased the same 14" Benelli and going through the same thing with my winchester sxp. I really enjoy shotguns and love just doing different loads birdshot, buckshot and slug. I found I am really enjoying messing around with slugs out to 100M but found the bead sight would just not cut it. I originally thought about getting an SXP with a ghost ring and went to wholesale sport and just loved the quality of the benelli just so much better.

I also like to keep a limited amount of guns and hate when people say you could buy two guns for that price as I can only use one gun at a time and a good quality/reliable gun means a lot to me. I am still having trouble changing from the SXP to the Benelli as I have had the SXP for a few years and shot lots of rounds, its like an old pair of running shoes and the benelli is the new pair I need to get used to. I have no doubt if I just practice just with the benelli for a bit of time it should be fine as function and feel is good.

I would just suggest putting the mossberg at the back of the pile and just use the benelli for a bit and see how you feel after 6 months.
 
My only gripe about the 14" Benelli is they took a 18.5" and cut it to 14". So the muzzle is Cyl bore and not nicely rounded off.
 
Had 14" super nova. I found it was choosy on ammo. Cant have that. Sold it and got a fabarm martial pro. Been a lot happier with that. Super nova also fept pretty bulky.
