Many Cessna singles have lead mass balance weights in the rudder/elevator " horn" - depending on where you are check with the nearest aircraft maintenance shop regarding scrapped control surfaces off wrecked / parted out 150's, etc.
Many years ago I traded three of them for a blueing job and a cheap scope for the junior sized .22 I was building up for my then 8 year old son. He now has more money tied up in "toys" than Dad

KayceelI Found some roofing lead locally. Had some sealant or glue stuck to it. Cut it into strips with tin snips and put into the melter outside. Standing upwind, once the smoke clears the ash/residue floats to the top. I scooped this off, then added 50/50 solder. Counting the number of bullets made from the previous bullet making session helps me figure out how much solder to add.

Pure lead in Manitoba
I live in the south west. Many of the old buildings in the villages have pure lead on the roof where the vent pipe for the plumbing stack is.
Watch the wheel weights. The older ones were about 91% lead and a high percentage of antimony used to harden them. You have to add tin to them. Tin is available in bar solder. Sometimes you can pick up 50-50 or 60-40 bar solder at country auctions. It was used to seal sewer pipes in older times.
One caution is not to use new wheel weights. They will really screw up your mixture, and if you do use them, you have to REALLY CLEAN YOUR MELTING POT.
NEVER, NEVER, use plates from batteries. They have pockets of acid in them, and may explode when melted due to heating the moisture. Acid in your eyes will spoil your whole day,,,,,or life. You should always wear safety glasses anyway. Cheap insurance.
Buy a copy of Lymans Cast Bullet Handbook. It gives the composition of several more commonly obtained lead based metals.
