Support Dlask Arms...

From same source:

"handgun"
"handgun" means a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequently altered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands;

I don't think it meets the definition of handgun...

It is CLEARLY not designed or intended to be shot wiht one hand.

Here is the CC definition:

"restricted firearm"
"restricted firearm" means
(a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,

(b) a firearm that
(i) is not a prohibited firearm,
(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,

(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or

(d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm;

After reading that I'm very hopefull that Dlask will win this. :)

Hmmm, not to go off topic too much but, I wonder if next they would consider building bullpup versions of the HP9 14" ? :D

Not that I'd want that muzzle flash any closer to my face, but it is an interesting thought. :D

While I support Dlask's efforts with the SMD, and am behind him whole-heartedly; I refuse to buy IB stuff - mainly from the off-spec AR debacle.

I may be wrong on this but I was under the impression you can only "prescribe" by Order-in-Council ie the government has to do it. otherwise you have the police making law as they go along which - in spite of lieberals' and socialists wet dreams - is still a no-no in a democracy...

You are right.

Assuming they apply the law precisely to this situation I believe that Dlask is in the right. While the libs never intended to make fixed length non-semi guns under 660 mm legal, the way they worded the law did.

One definition of a restricted firearm is:
"(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise..."
It really depends on how "adapted" and "otherwise" are defined. One interpretation is that "adapted" means alteration of the original parts of the firearm. An alternative definition could be that "adapted" could include substitution of replacement parts for the original parts. If "otherwise" is interpreted to include substitution of parts, as opposed to folding or telescoping, the classification of these Dlask firearms could be affected.
In another thread, the procedure for a court challenge was detailed.

I sure hope these firearms stay unrestricted. I came across the thread for these smaller shotguns just recently. Being a Forest Tech. and working every day in the field I would love to have this firearm. I do have a ATC and carry a shortened .454 Casull R.S.R.H. but would prefer to carry both if possible. A standard shot gun is just to big. This little 870 I could attach to my pack and bring ready when I had a warning. Were as the revolver is a last defense fire arm. Under "the rules" we are only allowed to carry one restricted fire arm.
