Suppressors are awesome.

So what's the legal reasoning for them not being allowed here in Canada?
There is no actual reason, at least not today.

Because of politicians watched James Bond movies in the 70's
I believe the ban far predates James Bond. I think it was added to Criminal Code some time in the 1930's, probably as an anti-poaching measure. It is maintained because leftist govts are ignorant ninnies.

The CCFR has done some work towards educating Canadians on sound suppressors.

Also, many wildlife biologists even in Canada believe that hunting with suppressors is better for the animals. An article was posted here not long ago iirc.
Not certain I believe that. I have shot around livestock and for the most part they do not care. I have also witnessed deer walk out onto an active range, so they clearly are not bothered.

I have seen animals in the foothills spook from a gunshot a mile away.
I think it entirely depends on the animal and the area.
Using that very relaxed deer in Brandon Herrera's AMD65 video as an example. After he goes full auto for a bit with it, the deer casually strolls by down range a second later, not bothered in the slightest.

For those in the TLDR crowd here is their response,

The Government believes in implementing effective measures with respect to firearms that prioritize public safety, while

remaining mindful of the need for such measures to be manageable for firearms owners and businesses. Naturally, the

safety of firearms users is always a paramount consideration.

Any device intended to muffle the sound of a firearm has been unlawful in Canada since the early 1900s. Sound

reduction or elimination diminishes the public’s ability to react to gun violence and makes it harder for law enforcement

to become aware of a possible criminal incident.

The Minister of Justice encourages firearms owners to make use of other forms of hearing protection that are commonly

available and that do not adversely impact public safety."

I don’t know

On an AR the back pressure is pretty unpleasant and you’ll be constantly eating toxic fumes and particulate. The gases even escape from the charging handle area

My next one will be a flow through from huxwrx or sig to see if that makes any difference

My 22s are pretty sweet suppressed. Especially with subsonics

Every gun owner should “get it”. The ones that don’t or argue otherwise are as bad as the politicians.
They should, but the vast majority have no experience with suppressors and a disturbingly large number believe the lefty hysteria around them and their use.

I think it's worse than that. Despite owning/using a suppressor being illegal at the federal criminal code level, Alberta expressly prohibits hunting with a suppressor in the hunting regs. So even if it was legalized at the federal level it would still be illegal to hunt with one in Alberta. That is beyond stupidity and into the realm of malfeasance.

The stupid, it BURNS!

Ok, I can understand upping the sentencing if a guy robs with a suppressed gun.
Why? Everyone who commits an armed robbery should get the same sentence, regardless of the weapon used. Guns are not special in any way and should not be singled out in this fashion.

Yeah, that's why Mulroney repealed it in the 80s, and Harper repealed it in the 2000s....

PP thinks automatics should be prohib and handguns restricted, so I wouldn't hold my breath that anything is gonna happen on the suppressor front...
The conservatives are just another flavour of centrist/leftist party, they’re no more conservative than you are lol
