supressor popularity?

Shooting a PCP air rifle (usually under 1000fps) with a suppressor is like Holywood. I miss those days of walking through the woods in the UK and not having to wear hearing protection.

They would not even think of hunting with out a suppressor in the UK.

Good old days.

........... as are handguns.

............. as are stairs

............. as are scissors

............. as are vehicles (much more so in fact)

............. as are knives

no firearm is more dangerous than anything else, idiots with anything including a fork are dangerous....

I got to shoot a suppressed .300 blackout last time I was in Phoenix. I'm not gonna lie I was impressed, that thing was almost movie quiet.

If they had told me it would cost $800 for inspecting the container i would have sold it in the UK. The other thing that pissed me off was the air tanks cant be filled legally in Canada. Now I have 2 air tanks that cost almost £500 and can't be used.

Why can't your air tanks be filled?

i ran the FAC rapid 7 with a sound mod and that was unbelievably quiet
there was more of a crack when the pellet hit the rabbit

my 223 with a T8 reflex just produced a boom when fired, none of the high velocity report could be heard.

I took it to dive shop in Montreal, they took a look and said its missng the sticker/markings that Canada and US use and its cant be filled. I thought it was just them but tried in Ottawa, and then checked online and sure enough no go.

That was almost 6 years ago. I ended up getting a used tank from Ottawa for $150 but its not nearly as good as my 300 bar UK tanks.

If the reason for banning sound suppressor is criminal use,I would like to find out how many criminals actually have sound suppressors on their guns? I suspect the ban is result of politicians watching too many old James Bond movies..

I was in NZ and saw 22 rifles for sale with sound suppressors already attached...it's just not an issue there.

My Rapid7 Mk1 in Canada is FAC rated, the Mk2 in the UK was not but with either it was like you said unbelievably quiet.

Suppressors dont make some rifles go kaboom FFS! Here in NZ we sell them every day to anyone that wants to put one on their rifle. Every second man and his dog has one on some or all of his rifles. No research by the purchaser, no training required, no extra precautions etc needed - just some good ol' fashioned common sense. We have several very qualified suppressor suppliers and manufacturers supplying them for retail and because of the competition, they are very very practical for both target shooting and hunting. If it dont work it dont last long in the marketplace! A large percentage of rifles from .22 to 338/375 are prethreaded for sale on the shelf. You can then choose to use a suppressor [or not] or any one of a number of brakes available [or not] They are now so light that if you dock your barrel a few inches to fit one, which is common, you barely change the balance or weight. Personally I dont use them unless I have to ie I have a 270 that has a fully suppressed barrel to use on some properties where it is required by the landowner. And I have one permanently on my 10/22 for shooting rabbits and possums. With subsonic ammo, you can only hear the click of the trigger mechanism and the action springs working. You can choose from all muzzle forward, over barrel with some of it muzzle forward, or fully suppress your whole barrel. As a general rule they improve accuracy, they improve most guys shooting ability, they do make it a whole lot quieter [but not silent!]and they give nothing away in the velocity dept if you can reload - and velocity aint the b all and end all.

As some posters have previously stated - some politicians watch too many hollywood movies and then make up laws based on what they've seen. Whether you like it or not, what's portrayed on the silver screen defines your culture, lifestyle, legal etc etc.
