surplus 308/7.62X51

Would 308 surplus be suitable for hunting? Can I put 308 surplus in my Winchester model 100 and go deer hunting? Sorry if its a dumb question but I'm new to shooting and hunting :)
 
Not if it is FMJ, which it would be.

(some provinces may allow FMJ for small game like coyotes... )
 
I'm going to guess that the 240rnd cans of Federal American Eagle are probably a no-go this year based on the US?

Will the headspace in this firearm be ok with 7.62x51?Id look into that.If it is use the surplus to practice and buy 1 box of good hunting rounds.That should last yah.
