Surplus 7.62x51 Nato...

holy christ , what is this , like the 6 or 7th thread in the past 3 weeks .. read around its no where to be found period and you can blame NRCAN and the ####ing United States of ###.
 
CraigOry / Eighty Duece: All I can say is keep your eyes open and wait for a break, and be prepared to pay commercial type pricing because there are some who're going to be bringing stuff in, but it'll be current production (with a slight price break for caselots).

There is surplus on the world market (and avialable in the US), but a variety of factors are currently keeping it away from Kanada.

Hopefully more of that German surplus stuff will come, as the Germans recently released a bunch for the US market, although don't hold yer breath:(

I know the rounds are all over the damn place except Canada...
Apparently the Canadian government wont let companies that do have it, like Century Arms International, whom I spoke to today, bring it into Canada. They said they have tons in stock back home but the office that regulates the import of ammunition to Canada won't let them bring it in...

I myself am not actually looking, My .308 is a VTR, I probably wouldnt get great results with milsurp ammo, And besides, The RCMP supplies me with all the .308 brass I need :D
 
There is SOME at The sportsmans Den in red deer I saw several Cans of it, buck a round. a few thousands rounds
 
I don't think 338 meant to sound like a shlong. He is right tho there are lots of posts about it on here. I found some online out of the u s of a. 308 win get this.... $169 for 500 rounds. I wanted to cry.

NRCAN WILL let them bring it in, but only AFTER you spend $$$$$ complying with all of their "requirements" for information, including detailed chemistry of the primer and powder, production records, quality control during manufacturing, etc (for which you must have full cooperation from the original manufacturer) Add to that a year or two sitting on that batch of ammo. (each different surplus "batch" will require the SAME testing/approval if anything changed)

When you add up all the costs plus time involved, it doesn't work out much cheaper than factory unless you buy it really cheap in the first place. And that is only IF they actually approve it.

You can import up to 5,000 cartridges for personal use without the NRCAN import permit (testing etc). But if from the US, you will still have to go through a registered US Exporter, and get the corresponding Canadian Import permit (not the import permit from NRCAN)

It will take a couple months for the paperwork and several hundred $$ for the permit. You will need to pick it up from the US because of the high costs of shipping dangerous goods over the border.

To possess ammo in the US, you will need a hunting licence from any State.

They won't let milsurp trace or AP in either. Customs has decided both are illegal in Canada. More government agencies making their own laws.

Nope, the under 5,000 round exemption can be any ammo, as long as it is for personal use and not for resale. You still need the an import permit, IIC from Foreign Trade, to satisfy the US Export Permit.

For import over 5,000 rounds or for resale, you need two import permits, the IIC, and the second from NRCAN.

Yes, some agencies may be making up their own rules as far as tracer/AP is concerned.

That is a minor cost of a couple thousand $. The major cost would be buying the ammo first, and then warehousing it for a couple years waiting for the NRCAN approval. No point getting approval for ammo that won't be available in 2 years.

You also have to find ammo where there the manufacturer is willing to cooperate and disclose all records relating to manufacture of the ammo. If an item such as a primer or powder was subcontracted, then THOSE manufacturers would also have to cooperate.
