Just ordered one of the "Italin Police Surplus" 92s pistols from Leverarms. I have never owned a Beretta before and am just wondering what other people think of the 92s? I was told that it was from the 80s so I'm a little concerned as to what may have to be replaced but I guess I will find out. Let me know what you guys think of these things.

I'm waiting for my 92S as well. They have the mag release on the bottom of the grip, so the grips are different than any other 92. I believe the barrels are the same, but the slides will not interchange. I've read that the sights aren't that great, trying to find out if 92F sights will fit.

It's a nice looking gun, though IMO I think the M92F looks a bit better. (I think there's a difference, if not i'm just crazy)
the mag release would drive me nutso but you cannot beat the price, that's for sure.

Do they have the same table leg like hefty grip of the latter 92's?

Apparently the grip angle is a little different. Hopefully not TOO different, it's one of the reasons I wanted a 92 in the first place

I find newer Berettas with houge grips (not wrap around) to be pretty thin. I've handled 92's with wooden grips and they felt a bit large. Houge rubber grips are the thinest.

92s

I bought one of the Lever guns, had it hand picked, but was a bit disappointed with the condition as the left side appeared to have been wet for some time and the blueing is very fragile on that side of the slide. Don't know what the rest of their stock would be like. Outside of that, I think it's a great pistol and doesn't seem to have been fired much. Mags are different than what you will find on store shelves these days, the cut out for the mag release is on the spine of the mag but it does come with a 15 cap. mag permanently :D fixed to 10. The mag release works quite nicely even though it's a two hand operation, my left hand's up there anyway while shooting, you get the hang of it. The grips are the smooth sided type and can be slippery in sweaty hand and the trigger pull is long and hard, maybe new grips and a D spring for mine. Worthwhile!

any issues with these? and what mods can be done to them?
issues? none

as for mods well you can install a 'D' spring which will shed about 4lbs off the DA trigger and about a pound off a SA. You can do that yourself and it will take you a couple minutes and will cost under $10 :)

also if you get a basic 92FS (Elite, Inox and Vertec models have been discontinued) you can replace a hammer, trigger, mag release, sights, grips etc if you wanted to.

Isn't that price a bit high on police surplus from the 80s? I know it's made in italy and all but you're pretty much stuck with what comes with the package since magazines are a biatch to find.

I wonder if you can use Taurus magazines... I know newer 92's can't but I remember hearing that taurus mags are the same as older berettta mags. That may not be true though...

Most 92 magazines made now have holes for the 92S as well as the regular 92 models.
