It seems that there are alot of shooters in Canada that are looking for surplus ammunition of all calibres. There doesn't seem to be much around in full bore or pistol unless you see some at gunshows and in usually small amounts. Now there are only a couple or so companies that bring in surplus ammunition and the government gives them a hard time doing it. Whats the problem with the government -- left over libral burocrats that want to throw a monkey wrench into the works and use any excuse to do it? Now, is there any news out there as to the next shipment of surplus coming in. Seems the US can get all they want.

I think the key word is bureaucrat. They don't have to be liberal party supporters, the burdenous laws exist in their current form, and anyone working for these positions you outlined about is going to be a serious CYA type due to the unfortunately political nature of firearms in Canada.
I guess the question is - surplus what? I have another shipment of Swiss GP11 coming in. On the other hand, the Explosives Branch folks have pretty much ensured that much surplus ammo will never be approved for Canadian sale as the original manufacturing details must be known, including powder and primer composition.
In regards to surplus ammo, 308, 30-06, 303, is pretty much items of the past but 7.62x54R, 7.62x39, 8mm Mauser isn't. Marstar mentioned about having 8mm overseas and we know that 7.62x54R and 7.62x39 is available overseas.
As to government bureaucrats, these people love to build empires and hold it over others. Being in charge of a budget (money) is one way of power and regulations is another.
