Just wondering what some of you have to say about Chinese and Russian surplus ammo in 7.62x39.

Which is cleaner, percentage of duds etc

Is the Russian worth the extra money?

Thanks

Gone through about 600 rounds of Chinese brass plated casings dated 1969 from factory 61. Excellent stuff. No FTF or FTE...yet. Could be the 51 Tula SKS though as it's saaaaweeet.

Hmmm, I shot a bunch of the old Chinese Import stuff (late 1990's) and it was steel cased. Very corrosive and a few duds.
The case of Russian (Eastern Block) was steel cased and I had fewer duds and it was less corrossive (bought about two years ago).
I am sure the Chinese stuff being imported now is different than the stuff imported 15 years ago.

Got the 1440 round deal from TradeEx, mine is 1971 manufacture.

No failures yet out of three SKS' and an 858, and it shoots just as good as any other surplus in that caliber. It's a little dirtier but that's kind of subjective as all of this stuff is filthy. I'd say go for it.

I personally am a fan of the cz Czech surplus steel case / lacquer coated 7.62x39, I have went through at least 3000 rounds in the last few years, and have yet to get any problems whatsoever. No duds, and I have found rounds laying in the mud at the gravel pit, cleaned off the dirt with a rag, and fired it out of my 858, and again no problems. Too bad they are corrosive, otherwise fantastic ammo :)

Same here the czech is awesome and smells good too :D plus they are on stripper clips, ive only shot 300 rounds of it but i have 4800 in supply and the whole corrosive thing just makes you take better care of your gun
