So I been searching for a crate of the Romanian surplus 7.62x39, and after finding it, I was all excited to buy it and get it home. I looked like a 5 year old kid that just got a ice cream cone. so happy.

Get it home cut the band off and open it, remove the cardboard and see this.................

Since it was sealed I thought it will be in those green spam cans, but i found out it was loosely repacked in paper boxes. My world crashed. I think I would've been happier and better off paying a zoo keeper 300$ to have a elephant stand on my nuts. At least would've felt better.

I am so pissed I'm thinking about going down to police station and handing it over to have it destroyed. I have lost my will to shoot my sks and vz. Today I have called my friend over and gave him my sks as a present.

Is it too much to ask for spam cans. I don't think so.

Imagine going to McDonald's ordering a meal and they stick it in a blender and give it to you as mush, and they say ohh its already pre-chewed. (no you're giving me crap)
Imagine going to Wal Mart and buying toilet paper and one side is used, and they say its still 50% clean. (no you're giving me crap)
Imagine going to Beer Store and buying a case of Corona and getting a case of Bud Light Lime, and they say its still beer. (no you're giving me crap)
Imagine going to Crappy Tire and buying brake pads and they give you used brake pads, and say they worked for sure. (no you're giving me crap)
WELL THAT'S HOW I FELT.

Moral of the story, Life sucks

To me....for an SKS or other run of the mill milsurp firearm, ammo is ammo. As long as you received safe shooting ammunition and the correct amount in the crate I'd be happy. One thing with the "spam cans" is they need to be opened...a small hassle in itself.

BAHAHAHAHAHahaha this made my morning! these boxes have been the standard for years now....... lol

I will buy the crate and cz from you

Sorry for the nood surplus question, but do the spam cans really improve longevity to this degree ?
I suppose I have always lucked out and got the spam cans in my last 3 crates, but i just ordered some romanian from wolverine that I have a feeling will show up just like this.. curious if it's worth fretting about ?

isn't it more like you went to McDonalds and instead of getting your BigMac in the old school styrafoam box, you got it in cardboard?

Is it not the same ammo just in a different package? like instead of your case of Corona being in a sealed case, all in one box, you ended up getting a couple six pack boxes inside?

I'm not sure if "rant" is a good description as much as "overreaction"

AAAAHHHMMM, funny, hope you were going for funny, if not please sell your other guns, you are unstable! On a serious note,, next time just ask how they are packaged, and shoot those terrible cardboard box packaged cartridges as fast as you can or send them to me I can help you out! Don't want them to spoil!!

I'm fairly new to MILSURP, and I'm waiting on just my 3rd surplus crate of ammo - the first 2 arrived as you described, no 'spam', but all the rounds went bang just fine? Do the spam cans mean that the ammo is of better quality? Or does it mean non-corrosive. My paper-boxed ammo was all corrosive, but that bothers me not. Chrome barrels and proper maitenance, blah blah blah.

The Romanian was removed from it's spam cans just prior to, or at importation, so it could have the individual labels applied to the boxes.

It hasn't been out of the cans for very long. If you intend to shoot it in the next few years, the cans are a moot point. If you want to stock up for the next 10 or 15 years supply, find stuff in the cans.

I wouldn't worry about shooting it, its corrosive ammo regardless. I'd be interested in it if you are getting rid of it, I could come down and oick it up and even pay you something for it.

I just opened a crate of the same ammo but was happy to see I wouldn't have to fight with can. Mind you, this stuff is for shooting not storing.
But even if you wanted to store it long term, just go pick up a mil-surp ammo box, fill it up and pack it away with a couple silica packs.
I have a couple of cardboard boxes of ol' .303 British ball ammo that have been stored for 20ish years (by me anyway) that look just fine to this day.
The Green crate Czech stuff (if it returns) is nicely sealed in plastic and I'm sure would last decades more.

Personally I would refer to get spam cans & open them when/if I see fit. What bothers me more is the notion of our nanny state having to open each spam can and individually bilingually label each cardboard box or paper wrapped pack and then repack it into the crates & reseal the crates all for what I ask you???? To keep me safe down the road once I open the spam cans just in case I forget what caliber ammo it is??? FFS!!!! And to top it all off ......... who exactly pays for all this useless unnecessary extra labour & labels??? Some overpaid civil servant somewhere??? If so that boils down to you & me the tax payers are paying for it. If the importer is paying this to satisfy import restrictions & regulations then again .... it is being built into the price! I say ..... give me spam cans & reduce the prices! I'm a big boy & can figure out what kind of ammo it is once the spam can is open & it's in my hand!!
I don't need no stinkin nanny state labels!
I miss the early days when the Czech ammo came lead soldered in cans in the green crates!

I miss the spam cans too, (I actually still have three un-opened) but those days are gone. I'm sure part of the reasoning was related to smuggling goods other than ammo in those crates. If no-one opened them, what would stop you from filling a crate with guns, heroin, whatever, re-soldering it, and shipping it? Nothing. This way the shipper has to verify the goods inside, and customs can do the same, if they so desire.
