Surplus Irish Body Armour?

anything with come out, if you use a razor.
I bought two for disection.
You can actually cut it out of the carrier.
Inside is the softarmour glued to ceramic plate inside another cover.
If you cut them out out of that cover, then you can access the plates, and soft armour. if you use brute force, flathead and some leverage, you can cam the plate from the soft armour.

I suppose that this stuff could fit inside modern plate / armour carriers. The soft armour would have to be trimmed to BALCS template. Good luck trying to find a pair of shears that will cut through kevalr.

BUt all the sweat, not sure if its worth it.

Just use tin snips..

Bans on body armor are contrary to the charter section 7. The very first time someone gets charged with possession, puff - out of the window goes legislation (if the lawyer is worth at least as much as his jacket).

The one I got from frontier a couple of years ago didnt smell but it does have a name on theinside of it. I was thinking of cutting out the plates but they are to big for my carrier and dont wanna ruin them by chopping it up. Ohwell it is still pretty good.

I've got some of the Irish stuff. Nicely made, the carrier is fine, quite comfortable, but not "tactical" enough for the well equiped mall ninja. It is heavy though, about 20 lbs. Just for giggles I suited up: Fatigues, boots, vest, water, load bearing gear with 300 rounds, overnight rucksack, rifle & backup pistol with 50 rounds. Then I went up and down the stairs a couple times. When I came to, I had a new appreciation for the fitness level of a grunt. My hat's off to you people.:canadaFlag:

Geez - this thread must of moved a lot of product. There's only 4 of those vests left.

Great! My procrastination just saved me about three hundred bucks. :p

Harbl, I just read your sig line, "I don't mind that 90% of the wealth is held by 10% of the population. What I REALLY mind is that 89% of the wealth is held by 1% of the population."
What I really mind is that I don't even make the 90% with 10%. :(

Well I did it - I bought a medium :)

If you live in Canada - you're in the top 10%.

The 89% of the wealth the 1% has is ill-gotten and the people who hold it use it to turn the 90% who don't have the wealth against the 9% who do.

I got mine today and am wearing it as I speak.

Very heavy, and it would be difficult to get an isoceles stance - but not a weaver one using an AR.

The vest was listed in "good" shape, was fairly worn with much of the velcro/nylon frayed. Usable on it's own, still but I had other plans.

I bought a medium and after ripping out the panels - it fits snugly inside one of these without modification:

Very nice in a Mad Max kind of way. Highly recommended.

The original user was the Royal Ulster Constabulary. No side, just front and rear plates.
It was heavily tested, over 300 dead officers.

 I hope you meant they tested this armor for issue, and it passed, after over 300 officers died in the line of duty...

Can't believe I've been missing out, placed an order today :)

How many of you guys have tossed the carrier and used the plate/soft armour in another carrier?

Any recommendations for a new carrier?

You don't always get hit in the armour, there is off-duty assassination and bombs. The last dead RUC officer was an under-car booby trap.
One of my in-laws and his colleague took a mag of 5.56mm wearing said armour. My inlaw took 6 hits off-armour and survived. He shot himself (so not included in the list) through the head the day my son was born. But the armour works.

Where was that blasted thread telling all about the regs of civilians wanting to buy body armour for residents of Ontario?

Having one of those... "because I can" moments, but I don't know if I actually can...
