Looking for reasurance that some surplus ammo I bought at a gunshow on the weekend is non-corrosive before I shoot it in my "new" Garand. The headstamps are KA 72, Ka 70 and KA 73. A reference book of mine says that after 1954 primers should be non- corrosive, but I think that is maybe only for US manufactured ammo. Anyone with feedback I would like to hear it. Thanks in advance Frank

'KA' is Korean and corrosive. Not a big deal, but you'll have to flush the rifle with boiling water then clean as per normal.
Korean 'PS' ammo is not corrosive.

Most guys who shoot corrosive ammo in SKS's use regular Windex to clean the parts before using regular bore cleaner, you could try that as well. It is a bit easier to handle than boiling water.

Yes, KA is corrosive, made at the old Korean Gov arsenal before Poongsan took it over. The PS stuff is generally NC, as stated above.

Thanks for the replies. Is there any easy way to deprime the corrosive primers if I pulled the bullets, so I could reload them, if I decide not to fire them as is? Just weighing my options here. I'm sure I'm being overly concerned, but there is a big difference between shooting corrosive in a $150 SKS and a $$$ Garand.

"...easy way to deprime..." Nope. It can be done if you very carefully run the empty cases into a sizing die with the depriming rod in place, but it's not exactly safe. I'd just shoot it and clean for corrosive primers. If you intend reloading them, you'll want to flush the cases out before you do so. Just in case. Mind you, virgin .30-06 brass isn't expensive nor hard to find.

If you are that geeked out about firing corrosive in your gun, trade it 2 for 1 for some non-corrosive FMJ.

I read on the web site moisnnagant.net that you can use a 50x50 mix of water and ammonia to clean for corrsive priming . and then oil as usual. check the web site if you want. I use GI bore cleaner after shooting corrsive ammo. make sure the barrel is totally dry and clean the gas system also . someone told me that they use hoppes foaming bore cleaner for corrsive . but research that one first because I can;t vouch for it .

I can't find that article where they tested variouse cleaners against the corroisive salt removal. I recall they fired primer only ammo against steel plates, then proceded to whipe with different products... some worked great, some didn't work worth crap!
