Was reading Polskadudes thread on his old ammo and remembered I got a box from my buddy who dropped it off last year sometime so I went and dug it out of the garage.
Not sure what to do with this stuff. It's mostly real old surplus ammo but there was a small box with what I think must have been someones cartridge collection at one time. There's some cartridges in there I've never heard of before like a 25-25 Stevens, a 6mm Lee navy, a 25-20 Single Shot (nothing like the Winchester 25-20) and a shotgun shell with just powder in it marked Eley Kynoch which I think is one of those shells they used to start airplanes way back in the day, correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyways, I've got some real old surplus stuff in there. 34 rounds of 30-06. A Winchester box states "30 Gov't Model 1906 soft point 220 grs" What I found funny at the bottom of the box was "adapted to U.S. Springfield Model 1906 and Winchester Rifle Model 1895" Gotta be old if those are the only two guns that shot 30-06 back then. Headstamp is WRA Co. 4 17. Can't even Google that headstamp, wondering if they are 30-03 shells? The other shells are marked WRA Co 30 G 1906 and the others are 42 T W. Kinda scared to try to put these out of the old Savage bolt action.
Also some old 303 British shells, even a blank in the lot I think.
Counted out a pile of 9mm shells as well, had 151 rounds of it in there, might buy an old used 9mm pistol and burn these suckers off but most are marked with Defence Industries headstamps of DI 43 9mm. If it was made in 1943 I'm kind of put off about shooting it. Theres a few Peters rounds mixed in and I know Peters ammo is pretty darn old to.
The rest is all just a mishmash of old shells. Guess I'll just have to buy a gun for every different round so I can get rid of this old ammo.
