Survival 410 foster slug vs 000 buck

For survival purposes, most of the game opportunities you're going to get will be small game, so I'd actually go with 3" shotshells, either in #4 or #6. For larger critters I would know how to make a cut shell, all the while wishing I didn't have a .410.

I have a tps scout in 410/410 and a Springfield m6 scout in 22/410 and they are both good little game getters. As far as a survival gun if they are used in the manner in which they were designed like foraging for small game they will do well.I believe the original m6 scouts used by the US pilots came with a note instructing the owner that they were to be used for foraging not as a weapon. The true beauty of these guns is that they were simple in design, compact and rugged.

I was thinking of a 30-30 over 12 gauge Savage recently. See them once in a while.

With a set of basic inserts for that 12 gauge tube, there wouldn’t be anything it couldn’t do. Except maybe fire an accurate 22lr past 25yards.

The chokes on my tps m6 scout in 410/410 are the screw in invector style chokes so if a person wanted to they could have an open choke in one barrel for slugs and a full in the other if so desired

For the .410 slug vs buckshot debate you can always try the cut shell buckshot method. That should augment penetration and lethality of the .410.

Intersurplus has a handful of 12ga/222, and 12ga/22HP. Those could be interesting, a 22cal wouldn't be my first choice for deer but it beats a 410 slug IMO. THE 22HP was advertised as good for 400lb tigers! Lol

Very good sir! What's your average distance to your target? What choke and shotload please?

Currently I have full chokes in both barrels and have no problem hitting targets at 30 yards but haven t done any testing past that distance as of yet.I was using 3 inch Federals#6s I believe

:agree:
I tried all kinds of bullets
what could work better would be a minie-shaped 41cal bullet or 40 (even 357 paper patched)
but I could not find such bullets in 200gr
