Looking for a breakdown 22 "survival" rifle. I really like the Henry Repeating Arms Co. AR-7 Survival Rifle. To be clear, this is more of a Christmas Present "for fun", clearly not seeing myself surviving with one of these.

Does anyone have other suggestions? Should breakdown small, ideally a 22 (mag?).

I am trying to find one of these in Canada with little success. Does anyone happen to know a store that sells/ships these?

Thanks in advance

I've been thinking of the little "survival " rifle. The take down models are temping, but you loose alot of accuracy. A 10/22 with a little barrel from dlask. Very small, light incredibly accurate. Its what you need if you are to rely on it as a tool.

I have one of the AR7's and it's ok. I've only put about 500 rounds through it but it often gets thrown in a pack as a just in case. If you can do without it all packing into the buttstock I'd recommend the Marlin Papoose, if you can find one. The Ruger 10/22 takedown with a Magpul backpacker stock and a more accurate aftermarket barrel would be another solid option, but not in the same price realm... Especially after you start diving into aftermarket parts.

I had a Charter Arms AR7.

I thought it was about the coolest thing out there.

Until I actually owned it. What a POS!

In all seriousness, if you want a 'survival' rifle, look at any of the folding or take down units that take up a LOT less space than the AR.

Think of Ballroom Dancing, in Mickey Mouse Clown Shoes, with Goofy, on acid, as a dance partner, and you pretty much have the feel of one while shooting it.

You can do so much better!

The Little Badger is a great choice. Mine is actually really fun to shoot, friends like it a lot on camping trips. Weighs about 3 lbs and folds up to about 16" or so.

savage rascal perhaps?
accurate bolt action and super light.
Stock could be used to store ammo or other stuff.

I had an Ar7 (twice actually) and accuracy was pretty bad.
in a survival situation i would prefer one accurate shot over an unaccurate semi.

I have an ar-7 and I love it, but my new survival rifle is the pc9, about 10 times heavier but 9mm going extra fast is worth the weight!

Unless you're set on take-down, I feel you'd be better served with a short semi like the Savage A-22-SR. Much more accurate that any Ruger out of the box, unless you get a "Target" or 'Precision'. Also less money, and the new Savages have 10 shot rotary mags. I have the B-22-SV bolt action with heavy varmint barrel and right out of the box I was keeping 'good ammo' under 1" at 50 yds.
YMMV

Nope, but have you considered the Ruger 10/22 take down ?
Try Reliable in Vancouver or ISG on Rupert for the HRA AR-7 though.
Rob

Hmm I saw that one as well, but I have a 10/22 already, albeit not the takedown version. Kinda want "something different. Reliable is sold out, as are all other dealers in the LM

x2 for the Marlin Papoose
A great little pack 22 rifle.
