:welcome: I would love to hear from anyone who has had a SVI open gun fully custom build and how the whole experience was and if you are happy with your purchase and if you have any advice for someone looking into building a custom open race gun. Thanks

expensive, yes, but quality isn't cheap. You can't get a Breitling for a few hundred dollars. The Strayers build pistols to a standard that others can't match and they bust their ass to do it. The only thing they don't make are the springs, everything else is made in house from barstock something no other custom shop does. You will wait longer then most shops to get your pistol but it will be worth the wait.

I own two Infinity pistols and I like them. I have shot STI before, good pistol but prefer SVI and not because it cost more, it is more of the quality gun in my opinion.
Both my SVIs are steel grip, it is an excellent balanced grip, they have hybrid barrels and they are shooters.

I just had my top end entirely rebuilt including a new barrel, comp, scope mount and I got the new steel grip with the evil bubbles. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Brandon and SV do one of the best, if not the best, trigger job out there! The price is worth it! My only prob is the turn around time, but quality takes time too I guess. It took almost 6 months to get mine done which in the grand scheme of things isn't that bad.

Thats awesome to hear!! When it comes to placeing an order do you have to pay up front or how does it work?

what do you consider substantial? of course there will some % required up front but if you're having an SV mad then the deposit isn't a big deal

When I was working with CRAFM, I would have asked for a 20% deposit at the minimum.

Considering the cost of a full blown open custom will be $6000+ and the wait time can be 4-6 months, it is entirely possible that although the buyer had the cash available at the time of ordering, the same could not be said when the firearm arrived and they had a 6k invoice to pay ASAP (and yes, it has happened).

I'm certainly not saying this this usually the case.. far from it. Most SVI buyers simply paid for the whole firearm at the time of ordering actually.

However, if it was a full blown custom with custom options and serial number, I would definitely expect a deposit in the $1500 range at the minimum.

Thats all they make :D

If you want the best you're on the right track. Send Frank the gunbuilder, he'll discuss the rest with you.
