SVT-38 Magazine

looking at my SVT-40 recently as I had been noticing that all the SVTs I've seen around have different mags, after a quick google I find that my magazine is actually for and SVT-38.

Is this unusual? What do SVT-38 mags generally sell for?

svt 40 mags sell for around $200, i would guess a svt 38 mag would be around the same price maybe a little more

They are less common, but I would not say rare. As a result I would perhaps value an SVT38 mag as worth slightly more.

Can I ask where you are getting this figure? SVT-40 mags don't sell for anywhere near $200, to my knowledge. Tradex apparently still has stock for $80.

P an s Militaria sell them for $195, no saying there worth that but thats only place ive seen actually ww2 mags for sale, to me you mines well spend the extra 100 and get a gun to lol, but the one you see for 80 are repro mags

I guess with the relative rarity of the 38 model the mags are just not in demand.... ?

It was ww2 but off of a refurb.

Svt38 mags would be worth a premium to an owner of an svt38 without mag, which is rare. Also yours is in refurb condition i imagine, so less desirable for that persons origonal svt38.

oh yea - original serial is struck out, new number electro-penciled [not matching my 40] some other stamps below the lip that I can't really make out.

My SVT-38 actually came with an SVT-40 magazine but I already had three SVT-38 mags (so she has her correct mag now) out of nine SVT-40's, so using that ratio, they're like 1 in 3 when it comes to rarity but since my SVT-38 will also take SVT-40 magazines, I wouldn't pay a premium for a 38 mag

This might be one of these stories where the designation "SVT38 mag" may just be a collectors title. Yes, the tabbed magazines are an early magazine variation. As a result, these tabbed magazines would have been used primarily on SVT38's and early SVT40's.

The question is whether they stopped the production of these tabbed magazines when they stopped the production of SVT38's?
Or did they simply stop the production of these magazines during early SVT40 production in a means to cut cost/reduce production time?

Unlike Mkb42(H), MP43, MP44 mags which have the designation on them, these magazines lack such markings.

As a result, this variation may simply be an earlier variation of this magazine, which would be correct for an SVT38. However, during service, I am sure that SVT40 mags were used in SVT38's.

There were several examples of where SVT parts changed in order to reduce production time/cost.

You definitely have a valid point there. The 'early' magazine is much much nicer though

I got a SVt-38 mag with the SVT-40 that I bought yesterday. Not that it matters, but it's just another cool little piece of info.

As far as I know the SVT-40 $80 mags are reproductions. I did see a pair of SVT-38 mags for $600 in the US. That is where the market is.
